My son-in-law was given an old machine by a neighbor and of course he thinks it must be worth a lot of money, but we are having trouble finding any information about it. It says Reliable Sewing Stores on the front, has gold emblem (like Singers) on the front that say Los Angeles across the top, Made in Japan on the bottom, and DELUXE 1952 in the middle. Underneath is stamped YNT in large letters. If anyone can direct us to find something out about it, it would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks

My DH and I went away for a couple of days and my eletronics engineer son fiddled with it and when I got back, he had it sewing a fine seam!! Am so pleased! There is a picture of it on this vintage thread on pg. 1034 if anyone is interested. Found the relics website and am pretty sure that I have found a manual for this machine. Will send for it when I finish the Antique riding clothes relining job. Want to do a doll quilt on it!
Will now try to locate a coffin cover for it. Thanks to everyone who gave me tips on where to search.

What year is the Rocketeer and what year is your FW?
Nancy
I see you answered that - the Rocketeer is 1951!
I thought the Rocketeer is the 500A. I don't have a Rocketeer.
The 401A is sufficient for my style of sewing. I have a feeling this gal will be sitting on bookcase more than being put to work. I will have to make one quilt that is pieced with the FW and the binding is finished off with the 401.

I have a second quilt I am making for the almost 3 year old's birthday! It is a simple row quilt - he was with me in the fabric store and wanted Grammama to get some Dinosaur Train fabric, his favorite TV show, so I got stuck making this one! His birthday is in 3 weeks and the quilt has to fit a double bed - not his crib!

I tried to post the link, but I must be doing something wrong. Search for 'viking sewing machines pre 1980'. It is a yahoo group. I found a manual for mine there. There is also information on reliable sources for parts, and people who will do a good job servicing the machines if you don't care to do it.
Quilt Mom, thanks for the info I'll see what I can find.

This is my new treadle, that belonged to my great- grandmother. I would like to know how to date it. Also, I need to replace the carraige that the bobbin shuttle fits into. Any ideas on where to get the part for it? Anyone have extra parts for The Free No.5? I am going to call a local repairman. The machine was in Illinois, I brought it with me to Georgia. my serial # is C78415
My FREE no. 5
