It looks like someone took different items to make a complete unit. In all my wandering on the net, I have never seen this type of Singer cabinet with this type of Singer straight-leg treadle. And the machine isn't that vintage of a Singer 15s, most likely one that is made in Japan or India.

If you want a straight-leg treadle, then see if you could pick up this for lots less. The cabinet looks like work, and the machine could be great-excellent for free-motion quilting. If you already own a Singer 15, then forget the machine.

I own a Singer straight-leg like this one (metal sides) ( there are metal side legs and the older wooden legs) that is very noisy if not on carpet and not situated in just the correct area of the floor.

My suggestion is to only go after this straight-leg treadle, if you really must have a straight-leg cabinet today, otherwise wait for a free one to show up or wait until a wooden straight-leg shows up.
Question - what is a straight leg treadle? What is the difference between that and a regular treadle? Forgive me if this is a stupid question!

Here are photos of my two treadles, one is a metal straight-leg and the other the standard treadle.

Loveyl, you will have to google for an image of a wooden straight-leg to see that. It has the same configuration as a metal straight-leg. You may also find looking through the vintage photo shop interesting: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-130994-1.htm

I just e-mailed the seller and told them they can sell the machine for parts only, but that it's far from operational!!! Bet they picked it up for $5 and want to get rich quick.
I saw that too last night. The poster must be a used car salesman...." I got just the right machine for you".

Well, I have been researching the Hitachi treadle now for a couple weeks. I even sent an e-mail to Hitachi. They replied with all the departments and tools, etc., the company makes with no mention of a treadle sewing machine! I am beginning to think that treadle was made for a very very short time, like under a year! It seems to be an anomaly! I'd love to take it to the TOGA, but that would be hard being it is a treadle!

Nancy
My guess too!

Yeah! I will get to meet with you and Kathie!!!! I looking forward to this event since I had a blast at the Mini TOGA.
Lots of cool machines to see and drool over and great stories told from a wonderful group of people.

That is a great color! I haven't seen any of the fun colors around here yet, but when I do, I'll probably have to add something to my vintage stash!

Here's my 1909 66-1 in the cabinet now. I think she looks very smart in there!! But still not sewing...I have to check if the hook is moving. She was dry as sand when I got her, and I have been oiling her for days. Some stuff is still really really tight.

More pics on the pics thread. The coffin top, etc.
That is such a well-kept cabinet. Very pretty design, do you have any idea what the style name is for the cabinet? Your lotus machine looks very happy in there. :)

That cabinet is a wee bit bright! I feel sorry for the Damascus having to sit in that cabinet, so out of place.
What do people have against wood? I found this one last light - again- get out the sun glasses!

OK, I bet the owners of these two machines are related in some way... siblings, cousins, something.... it's got to be in the blood! LOL
I don't know, but I may have found the TX cousins to them. We went to a local thrift shop and anything that resembled furniture had been painted with flat purple or flat black paint and had feather trim and ribbon glued on. Some of looked like it had once been nice furniture too, not just the really cheap put-it-together-yourself stuff. :(

I just talked to my sister, who is on vacation, and the souveniers that she's picking up for me are fabric and pictures of all the vintage sewing machines she saw. Also, a couple of people at my part-time job asked me if I picked up any new machines last weekend.

I'm wondering if these are signs that I have a problem?? :D :D

You do not have a problem at all. The people who do not buy these wonderful old machines are the ones who have a problem. lol  Kathie
