Vintage Sewing Machine Shop.....Come on in and sit a spell
Went back and reread. Your treadle irons say Decorah Posten. So, is this in relationship to the newspaper? You must have one a the few of these treadles that are left with this name. This makes for such an interesting MUT. If it were mine, I know that I would make a cover or mini quilt that had some newspaper motif. Way cool!!
Nanna-up-north,
This might be too nosey but will ask anyways! Where in the UP are you? I live in the UP full time. I bought an old treadle to take out to camp but still haven't cleaned it etc. I live in Newberry.
Just wondering!

Hi Monica, Yes, I stitched the quilt block completely by hand. Long story short, a long time ago I took a quiltmaking class at the Cotton Patch. It was a class on Quiltmaking by Hand, from start to finish, the old fashioned way. I found it very relaxing and enjoyable.

A very nice Singer 224, I especially like the cabinet, I like the look and lines of it. Just beautiful.
...And the guy that I bought the machine from said so proudly that he had oiled the machine with...he pointed to the can sitting next to the machine...it was that 3 in 1 oil. Eeks, I'll be doing lots of cleaning up tomorrow and re-oiling, with sewing machine oil.
Poor cabinet, looks like duck tape attack. Looking forward to using Glenn's tutes to cleanup this sad cabinet.

Janice, Did you look up the history on your Deocrah Posten?
Here is some interesting trivia taken from http://www.naha.stolaf.edu/pubs/nas/...27/vol27_5.htm
"In the 1890s, Decorah-Posten also arranged with a sewing machine manufacturer to sell his product under the name Husvennen (The Friend of the House). Through what likely was one of the most original offers ever made by a newspaper, a person could receive Decorah-Posten for one year and a sewing machine at a bargain price of $22.25. Women referred to Husvennen, which the paper sold for many years, as “the Decorah-Posten sewing machine.” They ordered needles and parts under that designation."

Ok, I re-sized the last 3 blocks that have not been posted here . . . now I will post them. First is Martha's block - Miriam's sister! This was a fun block to quilt! I love the fabric she used!
Next is Janis! She appliqued these little fish! Such a neat job! She did a school of fish! I quilted the fish with stitch in the ditch! I hope you aren't mad at me Janis! You did such a great job with the needle turn!

Now JabezRose, Pamela! I used FM quilting to outline the motifs in her block! I loved the diversity of all these blocks! I was so glad they weren't all the same fish!
