The ancestors of both DH and myself were original settlers of Canada and founders of Quebec.Among several one of the best known is Zacharie Cloutier, who we both trace back to.

On my father's side, distant cousin to Gov Thomas Dewey and Admiral Dewey. Not sure if those two qualify as famous or infamous . . .

I had great great great (not sure how many greats to add here) uncles that rode with Jesse James. Guess we have the same skeletons in our closet.

In doing my genealogy I found a paternal link back to the 1660s in Quebec, where my ancestor married one of the "Kings Daughters" (filles du roi) and settled and farmed on Ilse de Orleans Quebec. There's a statue honoring Francois and Marguerite (Foy) Dumas, which I plan on visiting later this summer. My GGG grandmother in this branch was a direct descendant of Jacque Cartier, the French explorer (1500s), who discovered Quebec. Be forewarned, genealogy can be almost as addictive as quilt making!

General Grant was married to my distant cousin. And my paternal grandmother was a descendant of the man who invented the Ferris Wheel.

My husband went to school with Dick and Jerry Van Dyke in Danville, IL.

My fame to anyone of claim is Matthew Thornton, signed the Declaration of Independence... and five generations back Elvis and I have common relations.... they were brothers...Prescot was their last name. Now, that and $1.00 might get me a cup of coffee!!!

Ohhhh nooooo... now we are talking about both of my addictions! My first addiction is genealogy and my 2nd is quilting. (I'm not addicted to housekeeping!) Can't say for sure if there's anyone famous but I'm descended from Mayflower passengers and Utah pioneers on my mother's side. My father's side was a part of the Great Wagon Road migration in the late 1700s - early 1800s from PA to MD to NC, then they went to southern Indiana. The Prather Meeting house in Harmony NC was started by my direct ancestor. So I'm a misplaced Utahn in SC having escaped from DC! (Wash. DC burbs)
