My Pfaltzgraf got marks on them almost from day one. Got some Corelle and love them. Corelle is supposed to get stronger the more you use it. They will not chip but will break and when they do, like people say, lots of small pieces. There is no "gray" area with Corelle, it either takes the beating or its history.

But boy oh boy when they DO break, WATCH OUT!!!! They bust up into a billion little glass-like pieces!!! And mine didn't hit a concrete floor!   Now, ask me how I know this fact!
I still have, and still use, Corelle for many of the same reasons others have mentioned. When I have had them break, it has NEVER been because they hit concrete. Just last year I hit the back of a dining room chair. I guess it hit is "just right" (or just wrong depending on how you term it!)I was left with about 1/3 of the plate in my hand, and several large pieces were on the floor surrounded by what seemed like millions (or billions) of tiny shards! Get this......those shards flew EVERYWHERE -- even into the next room!!!!!  It seemed like it took me forever to clean up the mess. I was still finding small bits that had escaped underneath pieces of furniture and appliances. YIKES!!!!  I always go around barefoot, but for a while after that I had my slippers on my feet!!

Corelle does not chip. I have used it in my home my entire adult life. You can even cook with it in the oven. My original set was the "Old Town Blue". When I had to start over in 2005, I went to goodwill, and was able to get the equivalent of a complete set (many patterns) for next to nothing. I needed dishes and at that moment, I could not afford all new. I am still using them since we do no entertaining. My daughter just finished collecting her set called "Tapestry". The only one that ever broke, was when it was dropped on concrete. The shattering sound it made was real impressive. lol!
I have had my Corelle since the early 60s and the plates do have some chips on the edges. They do not like concrete. They clean up wonderfully. I am completely satisfied, but I am not a person who has to change the settings. I have the old, old blue cornflower and the green.

I love my Fiestaware, but it has a tendency to get utensil marks also. Have had a lot of different colors of it for years, and the older pale yellow and other pastels have been the worst - or at least show it more. They may be trying to address that issue with the newer colors - too soon to tell. We just live with it and when company comes I tend to bury the ugliest ones at the bottom of the stack. I have not tried to use scouring powder for fear of taking off the glaze (and because I'm lazy).

Tell me how, please!

I also have had the Yorktowne pattern of Pfaltzgraff for many, many years. Probably about 30 - 35 years. I love it and I like the weighty feel of it. I have thought about replacing it with something new, but I like my blue and grey dishes.

I also have Corelle in the 5th wheel camper. It works OK for the camper because it is light weight and doesn't take up much room. But I am not fond of the feel and the style of it.

I buy Fiesta because it is Made in USA. I don't notice utensil marks on most of the colors - mostly just the white. I use the scarlet and peacock the most and they look as perfect as the day that I bought them. FOr the white, I wet the plate and use barkeep friend. It doesn't hurt the finish. Oh, and what's best is that it's lead-free.

Fiestaware... I love mine - I bought the place settings all the same color then went with other colors for the serving pieces and accessories. There is a factory outlet store in Newell, West Virginia - Great prices ....Good Luck!!
