I learned to sew as a child. My grandmother taught sewing for the Singer Co. in Olympia, Washington in the late '30s - early '40s. She also sewed for the wealthier people in town. She taught my Mom to sew, who made her first skirt when she was 5-6. I, too, took home ec. I spent many years away from the craft. But when my eldest dd was born, my husband bought me a machine and I sewed for her. I didn't really begin to love it until my Mom retired in 1991 and we took a quilting class together. I now make placemats, pot holders, baskets, coasters, pin cushions, costumes for musicals, and quilts of all sizes. My mom taught my dds how to sew, but only one liked it. She isn't hooked....yet! (insert evil laugh here!)

I've been sewing for 50+ years, mostly clothes for myself and family. I've sewn some crafty and home decorating items too. I've only been doing quilts for a couple years and still make all my own shirts and dresses.

Yep, I sew about everything you can think of. I made a lot of clothes for my kids even in their teens, bridsemaids dresses, furniture covers, coats, etc. etc. I think it is still my first love even though I love to quilt.
