I think I have some special kitty, and my cat just did not want it. so i think we bought meow mix and I put a little of the other in with it, to use it up. Sometimes, he is able to eat around it! Maybe he knows something I don't, and i should just dump it.
After hearing what Romeo has been thru, I don't want BC getting anything like that. Even without a male part, Romeo still would get a stone, if he eats even one piece of regular cat food. It's a life long thing.

I don't think its an allergy QnC...I've had cats that had food allergies before and he didn't react that way. The dumb thing (I say that with love of course :roll: ) has been bulimic his entire life....I was thinking it was a tooth problem, but would see him eat the hard food occasionally when I was feeding him the canned. Tell you the truth...I think he just finally outsmarted me and got me "trained" right. Really I don't know, but whatever is working...I'm gonna stick to it.

And chicken for your "old guy" sounds like an excellent choice!!

I had a male cat that had something like this the vet told me to use distilled water for him. I finally had to have him put down (sorry) as he had blood in his urine. He was a good kitty and would go in the bathtub tho.

Joyce, I sure hope you can figure out what's going on with your kitty.
Yes, the cheap food isn't good for neutered males, have heard that from MANY vets. We just suck it up and buy the prescription food from the vet. It's $50 for an 8 pound bag. Solved the problems and kitty is fine.
But, right now, he's acting out of sorts. He's sleeping ON TOP of me and also sleeping in Courtney's room on the bed. He usually doesn't do that and if he does, it's only for a few hours. He'll stay in there all day and I have to go in there, take him out and bring him down stairs for a bit. After an hour or so, he'll go back up to her room and sleep more.
So, I guess a trip to the vet tomorrow (today is Monday for me) will be in order just to get him checked out.
I'm thinking we may have to change his food once again to something with more vitamins (?) or something to get him moving a bit more. He'll be 11 in October, so he's really not all that old.

We had a cat that seemed to be having the same problems yours is. ( This was about 15 years ago though ) After a week of seeming to pee all the time and in many places he woke me up early in the morning yowling in the kids bedroom. Took him to the vet and he was blocked up with crystals. The only answer was for the vet to break up the crystals ( he didn't say how it was done and I was afraid to ask.) Told us it would be about 250.00. We didn't have it. Told the vet all I had was 100.00 dollars. After many tears from me my husband told the vet to take care of him and we would find the money somehow. After a week at the vets he was good as new and lived another 12 years. The nicest thing was when we picked him up the vet looked me in the eye and said he guessed he made a mistake when quoting me the $250.00 and the bill was only $100.00. I send lots of blessings and thanks to that DR.

I know it's agonizing to see one of your furbabies sick. As long as he is still eating and drinking, though, it's probably ok to wait until your vet opens on Tuesday, but if he goes more than 12 to 18 hours without doing either, you should probably take him in. And if he DOES stop eating, you should probably check his temperature. :shock: (Hint: you can't take it in his mouth, and you should label that thermometer "CAT" from now on"). If his temp is more than 102 (101 to 102 is normal for cats) then he needs to be seen immediately.
The eating and drinking a lot could mean he has developed diabetes, and is having the excess urine production that diabetes causes. Is he overweight? Or been losing weight lately?
Plus, for all of you who have had pet "accidents", there is only one product I've ever found that actually removes ALL odors and stains and that is Oreck's Enzyme Odor Remover. It gets it out completely. Can't recommend it enough. Get it from your local Oreck dealer, or order it online.
