Check out my profile pictures. They keep me busy. they do not shed but, they bring in yard stuff in the hair so I vacumn every\day.
they are bathed twice a month, and hair cuts as often as I get one. I use doggie shampoo followed up with human conditioner. A groomer and vet told me if they have fleas teh sented conditoner makes the fleas fall off because they do not like it.
I do not use it but they do have doggie fuuphooo.

What do you use on your dog? Does it control the smell for a long time?

Retrievers are bred to '"retrieve" ducks from the water every day! He might enjoy the bath.

I am really surprised at reading this. Learned a lot! We have Alaskan Malamutes that are indoor dogs. We only bathe them twice a year & they do not have an odor. None. We do get them up on the grooming table once a week or so and brush them out real well. This breed sheds tremendously. If they do start to smell like a dog, a good brushing takes care of it. Thanks for starting this topic.

I have a terrier who likes nothing better than to have a good roll!!! I only wash her once a month with a good dog shampoo and groom every day - hardly ever smells in between and NEVER EVER USE HUMAN PRODUCTS these strip the dogs natural oils and will probably exacerbate the smelly problem

My dog used to stink, but it was from her bad teeth. After her cleaning it was much better.

I love in the country and my dogs get into skunks sometimes. I found a receipe for washing them that takes the smell out. Here's the receipe that was passed to me:
Qt of hydrogen peroxide
TBS of baking soda
tsp of laundry detergent
water
Leave it on 5 - 10 minutes.
It's worked everytime for me.
Good luck.
I think I would also check with the vet about possible illness as I know there are several that alert us by the smell associated.
