To get the mucus flowing out, here's an Indian soup recipe. It's very tasty, and it sure does make the mucus flow! Of course, if your nose is very sensitive right now, you may not want to do this.

2 rounded Tbsp. grated fresh ginger root, with any juice that comes out with the grating
4 cups water or chicken broth
3/4 tsp. salt, or to taste
1 Tbsp. cumin seeds, toasted in a dry skillet & ground (right. I just used a small amount of ground cumin)
1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
juice of 1 fresh lemon
cilantro leaves for garnish (or flavoring)

1. Bring the ginger and broth or water to a boil.
2. Lower heat and simmer for 30 minutes. The liquid will reduce to half.
3. Add the salt, cumin, pepper; simmer for 2 more minutes.
4. Squeeze in the lemon juice and garnish with the cilantro.

Serves 4-6.

I also find that drinking 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar in 1 cup warm-hot water a few times a day will get rid of a cold fast, like within 1 - 2 days. Yes, it's nasty, but it works.
Is that East Indian or Native American Indian? And is it spicy?

And heres something that you can drink each day... Half cider vinager to half honey (how much depends on you) my great grandfather drinks that each day. He's in his 90's! My aunt says that it tastes like apple cider (truth in that is beyond me I've never tried it)

Also, home made chicken soup is a great cure...

Also Ginger Juice works too... I've tried that... It's horrible to drink but it works... it stings a bit too!! lol

Also, Chammomile tea or Sleepytime tea (both by Celestial Seasonings)

With both teas you add honey to taste, milk (just enough to make an amber color) and if desired alcohol (for sleep but just a thimble full)

I am thinking that the recipe you copied is an Eastern Indian recipe ... and, yes, it is spicy, if I understand what cilantro is <g>
one of the things about keeping a sick body hydrated is putting in substances that cannot be evaporated easily from our pores, I think.

Cilantro can be spicy if its a certain breed of cilantro... like mexican cilantro... *shudders* I was thinking spicy due to the cumin :) I need to try that soup!

Cilantro is a little more bitey than parsley, the spicy will come from the ginger & cumin. Think ginger snaps they sometimes have a bite depending on how they are made. You could eat some hot peppers like jalapeno or serrano. Now that will open up your head.

I have been sick on and off since Nov 3. I hav been to the Dr.7 times. I got H1N1 in November and just can't seem to get well. I missed a week of work in November and I have been home again since last week Wednesday. The H1N1 ticked in my asthma big time. I can not take a deep breath. I have been on so many different meds I can't remember them all. The only positive thing is that my nose is not plugged. I really like the bath idea, I am going to make husband go out and get me some epsom salts tonight. I had heard of the vinegar. I just want to feel well. I am sorry for knlsmith I feel her misery. BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

The Neti pots come highly recommended. I use the Sinus Rinse by Neil Med which was recommended by my pulmonary specialist. It is very easy to use and the doctor said because you squeeze the bottle it cleans out the sinus's more thoroughly than the pot. Haven't used the neti pot so can't compare myself. Just passing on what my specialist says.

I use the Neti pot and a syringe almost everyday. My sinuses are not very healthy. I thought I was doing ok with them but no.

I know everybody says that saline thing works but would I feel like I was snorting a swiming pool. You know how bad it hurts to get water up your nose. It always gave me a headache.
