I am very sensitive to perfumes and colognes. The only scent that agrees with me and does not cause me to develop a migraine is Happy by Clinque.

hi, i use jojoba, distilled water, a couple of drops of regular alchol, and f/o or e/o, and oh yes polysorbate 20 as an emulisifer,with sandalwood i use lavender, one of my favorite scents, i do not even mess with it is bergamont and basil, maybe a dash of lime or tangerine in it. i keep mine in the refer so and only make it as i need it, so i do not add a perservative. i love the scent of rose so i use tea rose sometimes, f/o cause the price of the essense would put me in debt for the next 1,000 years

My DH is severly allergic to most perfumes. An elevator ride with some one with perfume can put him into an asthma attack. We have had to leave theaters because of what someone around us has had perfume. Churches can also be a problem sometimes. Scarry to be out and about and suddenly my DH can not breathe.

Yes to that, and when they wear too much I get an allergy attack. It is the cheap fixer that most perfumes are made with. The Fixer keeps the scent around for hours and hours. Even some of the more expensive perfumes use the cheap fixer. I cannot even walk past the perfume counter with out needing a antihistamine. However the worst of the worst is aftershave, especially the ones found in the drug store...you know the ones with old, spice, and aqua in their names. The best scent is clean and unscented, or the natural scents that nature provides, no application needed. I love the scent that wind over the cedar tree brings though my summer window.

I do not wear any and wish that the people that over load would cut back on the amount they use. I live in a city with a major hospital and employees are not allowed to wear perfumes since there are people that are allergic to the the smells.

Seems that more are allergic than not who responded here. That is probably because it is a huge problem for those of us that suffer and we are very sensitive to this subject. Those of you who "try" to put on only a little scent ... are you kidding yourself? Either you put on a small amount or you don't. If someone enjoys wearing scent, they should be able to, but not at an other's expense. People are not allowed to smoke in public buildings in our state because it is a health hazard to others. As more people have their breathing also affected by scents, the general public needs to be made aware of this.
I do not think people over do it to make others uncomfortable they just are unaware. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find unscented products and if you do not suffer, you just are not aware. This is how we learn from each other.

I once was supposed to have a treatment from an inhalation therapist that was wearing something so strong I could not breath!

I wonder if those who are so defensive about wearing scents would be so if they fully realized that the scent they are wearing can make others ill just by standing next to them? Would they want to know that that others will avoid them and their homes just because of their perfumes? Those automatic room scents are deadly, with every puff I am less and less able to breath. If I can avoid those homes I will, if not then I must sit next to an open window or door just to get some breathable air. Do these facts make the scent wearer more aware and/or less defensive?

Iwear perfume every day! Even now that I'm retired, BUT, being a Southern Gentlewoman (I hope?) I still believe that neither your escort NOR your perfume should EVER precede you.
