both of my SIL call me by my name, Jackie.
As for my MIL I call her by her name, Alice. Though when she sends me anything, she signs it Mom. Which really bugs me. I have a Mom and really don't need another one :D

I've called all my MILs and FILs by their given name and I tell my children's spouses to do the same. I make them comfortable right at the get-go. Also, I tell my step children to call me by my name.....So far I don't believe I've offended anyone!

My SIL calls be both mom and my name. The DILs usually call me by my name, which is fine. When asked what I preferred, I just told them that whatever they felt most comfortable with was fine. I couldn't expect too much. bc of a situation I could never call my inlaws mom & dad. Wasn't in the cards.

I think I even use my husbands mother over saying mother in law. OK I can see you are reading this but what do they call you. LOL

My DIL of three years calls me Mary, and that is fine with me, I want her to feel that she can call me that and it doesn't hurt my feelings. When she talks about me she refers to me as her MIL. My SIL has a hard time calling me anything, he feels we are to young, he is forty-five and my daughter is thirty eight and i am 58, he has issues, lots and lots of issues and i wish he would fall off the face of the earth. My other son is not married but is seeing an exceptional young woman and I hope they will get married, they are both still in school and want to get their degrees first. But she calls mom, and she is a doll

Our son married the most wonderful woman ever, but since she was almost 40 when we met her, and her parents are still alive, she calls us by our first names. I think that age has something to do with it...she's not 18 or 21, but an established businesswoman. When she told us we were going to be grandparents, she asked us right away what we'd like to be called. (Mimi and Papa). I don't really care what she calls us (although I think Mom would be nice) because every time we part she hugs us and says "I love you!" That's what really counts!

I call my MIL Mamma Pat or Pat or Grandma depending on the situation or my mood! I think she is fine with all of them as long as it isn't one of her kids calling her by her first name! Watch out! She took DH aside and told him he was welcome to call her Mom, Mother, or Mommy, but he was still her son and she was still his mother and he would NOT EVER call her Pat. I could call her Pat, but not him! He hasn't since!
