We have a hot tub. We absolutely love it. We live on a lake in the northeast so we have snow a lot. There's nothing like being out in the hot tub when it's very cold outside. In the summer, we lower the temp to around 90 and the grandkids love using it as their own little swimming pool.

A friend of ours has a whirlpool tub and has offered for us to use it whenever we want (it's in her summer home). The only stipulation was we had to clean the tub after because it's such a pain to clean.

The jets push me around. It's like being in a washing machine. Get a good bath mat with suction cups (maybe turn the cups up it gets a grip on you).

When I built my house a couple years ago I put whirlpool tubs in both baths. I love them. When my neck and shoulders hurt from quilting I get in and let the jets take away the pain. In my bath the tub also has a built in heater so the water stays hot for you, does not cool off like regular tub. That has been great this winter when it was so cold.

Pros:

It feels good in the winter to soak in a hot bath.

Cons:

It is TALL! I can already see when I get older it may be tough to get in and out of it.

It is a pain to clean! I have to get in it to clean it.
Mine too (93gal) but I loved it when I worked. Was a RN in nursing home and rehab floor of hospital working long hours on 2nd shift. boy did the force of the water feel good on my feet and back...and now I do have trouble getting in and out.

Forgot to mention, I also installed a water on demand or tankless hot water heater dedicated to my tub. I never run out of hot water and I dont have a tank holding and heating water all day.

I had one in a previous house. I loved it but didn't use it much because two of the jets were in the back of the tub and you couldn't lean back comfortably. Except for that I would have used it more.

I was told not to use bath oil in it because it clogs up the jets.

We have one that we put in our home when we built the house. Love it! Both husband and I have some minor back problems and this tub sure helps relieve muscle achs. It has a "shower" head built into it's side which makes cleaning very easy. After cleaning I often rub it down with Endust which makes it shiny and new looking even after 17 years. We also installed an 80 gallon hotwater heater so we always had plenty hot water for it. Check them out and see whats available.

Check with your doctor. Sometimes an insurance company will help with the expense if a doctor prescribed it.
