Don't they get dirty under a carpet? Is it the kind of carpet that gets static electricity? I prop mine between the wall and the desk and I still am always fussing over that area to clean up dust.

I just bought a new 24 X 36 mat, so my older mats live next to the refrigerator. Just enough room there to keep them flat. Also in that slot there is an old 30 X 36 "white" mat, which I hate. I would never use it for cutting. But when I sew on the dining table, I put that mat down and put my machine and smaller cutting mat on it. That protects my table from stray cuts.

My new mat is permanently on my sewing table in the sewing room.

If area rugs at my house are used to wipe feet (front door, kitchen sink, bedside, bathroom, etc.), then how do you keep what is stored under them from getting dusty or wet. I have to clean my area rugs regularly--either by banging them on the side of the fence or by vacuuming them. I can't imagine that any area rug in my house would be a safe place to store a cutting mat.

I have 2 folding tables that I set up in my living room when I need to spread out my stuff. When not in use, they are folded up and lean against the wall. Between the tables is where I have been putting my mat. I had not thought about putting it under the couch, but that is a good idea. My dogs have a tendency to run like wild animals and scrunch the rugs all up, so that would not work in my house. Of course, most of the time it is on the dining room table, or the folding tables and in use.

My huge mat is stored flat under the bed. I do keep some large patterns and laminated design rulers under the rug in the sewing room.

Hello All:
I store the two smaller mats between the mattress and box spring. The larger one is behind a small dresser with the square rulers. I recently moved and left the most used mat in the car. Not a good idea in the heat because it has a bubble. My daughter has been laying it in the hot sun in the drive way and that is helping some with the repair. Have a wonderful day.
