Ask around at your local quilt shops, there might be other groups that might fit your needs and desires. I didn't care to join my local "official" guild, but I did find some alternative, like-minded, loosely-organized quilting groups. We organize our own retreats and have a blast!

There is a quilt retreat in Milford, TX that does have open retreats sometimes. It is called Our House In Milford. They have a website that you can look at. You take whatever you want for projects. All meals are included. You do not have to do anything but sew. This would be a drive from you area but well worth it if you can't find anything in your area. We have a group that does a Monday-Thursday retreat twice a year. Common Threads Quilt Shop in Waxahachie also does retreats at OHIM.

im going on a vacation with my hubby to plymouth mi the 1st of may its something hes always wanted to do. however im not thrilled about the event he wants to go to. so since this is his trip im taking my sewing machine
and stuff to work on i have also googled quilt shops close by at least i hope theyre close as my geography/map skills
arent great i also found a small quilt show that i think is close as well. so im ready to go lol. i cant wait to have time off away from home to sew and possibly some new adventures to experience as well.
of course any suggestions are welcome if anyone lives in the area or knows the area of things/places i shouldnt miss.
thanks carla

I'm in El Campo, Texas and our local quilt shop organizes 3 retreats a year in Wharton, TX. Wharton is about 40 minutes from Sugar Land - down the Southwest Frwy (59) towards Victoria. They do one in January, one in June, and one in July. The June one is fulll, but there were some July openings last I heard. Open enrollment. Very losely organized. Monday - Wednesdays for around $300. Check out there site and put it on your "check it out" for a low investment option. (I think $300 is high, but ... lower than other choices!)

I must admit the Texas one you posted sounds fun.

I'd vote for the cruise. You will be with many other quilters and no DH or other to drag along so you won't feel alone unless you want to be. My guild has two retreats a year and they are a lot of fun but the cruise is much nicer to feel like a real vacation.

We have a nice house that we found for rent at the beach for retreats. It is very reasonable, three blocks from the water but not on stilts (good for folks that don't enjoy steps). Equipped with lots of on hand supplies including an accu go cutter. Close to everything but tucked back in a beautiful section of the bogue banks (outer banks) of NC. I think they have a 3 day/4 person minimum. Great lighting, accommodations, well equipped kitchen, beautifully landscaped lot. Just hard to describe such a pretty area. Very private and quiet. Seems like the rate was 40 to 50 per day per person. Great way to retreat and have access to the beach for morning walks or a break to stretch your muscles!

If you go on a cruise, all cabins are priced for double occupancy. So, if you want to stay by yourself, you would pay for 2 people.
