Sadiemae, I agree with you. I do the tops in all sizes, and stack them and later take up to finish them one by one with a helper. I cant idle until I finish each one of them. Wish I was faster. But love to see them done.

i've only made one quilt start to finish...but i'm quilting my 3rd one. The one i'm doing now and the one i completed this past summer my aunt put them together...

this is the one i finished for my aunt - she started it after she was married in 1949

I do all mine from beginning to end. I now have 7 tops that need to be quilted. Why aren't they done, you ask? I can't stand the actual quilting and I can't afford to send them out. I WILL quilt them....but it will take a while to psych myself into it. I won't be making any new tops until those are quilted so I will soon have to get started...maybe tomorrow, right?

I do mostly queen-size quilts. I do Stitch in the ditch (SITD gives me problems...you'd never think that it would be so difficult to keep the stitch 'in the ditch'), some quilting around templates, fancy machine stitches and echo quilting, all on my small Brother machine. Wrestling big quilts through that little machine is doable but takes a long time. It was only last year that I got a walking foot..don't know how I did any quilting without it. I would love to do meandering. I can manage it on small pieces but big quilts give me trouble. Takes lots of practice to get it right.

Most of my quilts are for gifts or for myself. I make quilts because it gives me a creative outlet, and it makes me feel good to give them to others.

I do have my Postage Stamp one sandwiched, ready to go, so maybe I should head to the sewing area,(aka my dining room corner),and get started on the quilting.

If its just for fun, I quilt it but I have sent special pieces out. Usually, around $100 for edge to edge and little more for custom work.

Mine seem to talk to me and too many tell me what pattern to hand quilt them, love that hand quilted look. So do what I can when I can but for some very large definitely send out.

Well, just so happens that I have MQ a table runner, and two baby quilts this week and have a fourth on my table to quilt. I do have one out to the LAQer, but that is because it is huge and I don't think my back, arms and neck could handle the weight. I am on a mission to get those tops done!!! Trying not to start new projects until I get many off of the to do list. (Although I did stop at the LQS and bought 14 green FQ to do Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt)

I do finish my own also, but the reason some of mine sit for awhile is that I'm trying to figure out "how" to quilt it...the design I mean. I don't really like to just meander..that seems to me like an answer for "I didn't know what else to do"..so I like to figure out what exactly really enhances the piecing. Oh..and I also tend to over committt to swaps here on the board, so I let finished tops pile up while I play on something else :oops:

I used to make one quilt and finish it before starting on another, but in the past couple years, that's changed. A couple years ago I discovered OBW's and started on more than one at a time. I cut and sewed half hexagons for a quilt, but didn't like how they were turning out, so set it aside to make a table runner and nothing more has been done with it since. Last winter I pieced blocks for one side of a duvet for us, then put all the blocks in a zipbag and there they sit waiting to get sewn together. I have bought fabric and found the pattern for the other side. I am planning on sewing that this winter. A OBW is waiting to get the last 2 sides bound and hanger sleeves added for a gift for friends. I participte in a Fireworks Quilt Challenge and have made 2 of 7 blocks for that quilt. The end date for that is Aug. It's over a hundred pieces in one block, so I've been taking a break in between each block by sewing on some gifts for Christmas. Now those need binding and they'll be finished. So right there is 5 different projects!

Yes, I tend to sandwich them and let them sit for a while and "talk" to me. I have found some great resources in Leah Day's blog. She is doing a 365 FMQ blog and I have gotten some great ideas from her. I think the best advice is to jump in and just do it!!!

Hi Featherweight. I hope you will be getting stronger soon. I love your bargello quilt. Did you get the pattern from the bargello quilt book? I'm thinking of making one for my bedroom since I think the pattern will go well with the curtains. I've already made Trip Around the World with very small pieces so I'm thinking this bargello is put together almost the same way.
