I just finished a baby quilt in the pattern of bricks and blocks using
1930 reproduction fabric from keepsake quilt. I ordered the fabric
on line. Actually I have two bricks and blocks and the first one
didn't come out like I wanted. I am sending the 2nd one to a
cousin's daughter that is having her baby in July.

I try to make 2 quilts when doing gifts for new babies... one with muted colors (pastels, etc.) using blue/pink for boy/girl or the neutral soft yellows, soft greens... the other one in bright colors with a neutral 'child' theme... My thinking is muted one for calming effect (naps?) and the other for stimulation (play pad?)

Several...they babies just keep coming. I have made a couple from kits, but mostly designed my own using or two block designs.
I have made -
for the boys:
jungle animals
nursery rhymes
greens, blues, yellows - pastels and primary
for the girls:
Dick and Jane
pinks, purples, yellows, greens - pastels and brights
Sunbonnet Sue

I have made many baby quilts. For casual acquaintances and/or co-workers I try to surprise them so I ask no questions.
If I happen to hear what the nursery theme is I try to use the same colors but not necessarily the same theme. I have made rag quilts, red/white/black (the couple had not even decided on a theme but they liked the quilt so much that's what they ended up doing with the nursery), classic Winnie the Pooh, frog quilt in bright blues/green/yellow, strippy scrap in purples/lavenders/pinks/mauves with appliqued hearts.
When my niece had her babies I went whole hog. Her first son's nursery was done in turtles. So I scoured the internet for turtle patterns and made an applique quilt in blues and greens.
It was completely serendipitous that the fabrics coordinated perfectly with the bedding, almost as if I had had swatches with me. The second one (who's just a day or two shy of being 1mo old) was an adventure. She couldn't make up her mind what to do the nursery in so she kind of turned it over to me and my sister. That baby got the red/white/blue punch buggy quilt I recently posted a picture of.
I will probably not have any grandchilden but if a miracle happens and/or my niece has a third baby and it's a girl durn skippy I will be making something pink and frilly and feminine.

Yes,I made a pink quilt for a girl and in a few months am going to make blue for a boy.
A few years ago something funny happened in a fabric store. Looking at different panels to incorporate into the quilt....these two women were getting very excited and finally one of them said "And if the baby should be a rabbit!!!" as she picked a Peter Rabbit bolt off the rack......
I had to run to the upholstry dept. so they wouldn't see me laugh.....

I just became a first-time grandma 1 1/2 months ago (I'm 63). My daughter didn't want traditional baby stuff so we looked online through all kinds of fabrics and she finally decided on the "Love" line from Amy Butler. She painted her walls a Spring green, has white curtains and dark furniture. I have to say it really does look quite nice. Hopefully here's a picture.

i made one for my first great grandson(he is 3 mos.old now)
it was " Trip Around The World",in 5 different shades of blue.it was left overs from my gs "tatw".the big quilt was 5" squares and i made the small to be 2" squares. turned out good
