About the ruler - I was smiling because that is so much like things I have done - and I feel so much better knowing that I'm not the only one that does things like that.

I confess - I collect them - and use them. Not the diamonds, hexs, etc but I do have about every size square and rectangle ruler made. I also collected presser feet for my Bernina when I worked at a quilting store and got discounts - they're great even if most of them are rarely used. I love great gadgets.

I wish I could say that I don't buy every gimmic out there...i do.

but I getting better at the self control.....

I just used my flying geese ruler ( for the first time) by E. Burns tonight but I bought it oh 6 years ago...so I am sure I just needed it at the time!but I usually only use my 6x24 inch ruler or my 6x12 inch ruler.

oh but I do have to say--I do use my square in a square ruler by Jodi Barrows....that was a good investment.........and and and
my shape cut.....perfect for my strip cutting.....but I have to say...I really was going to "waste" money on the simplicity strip cutter 80.00$$ and thought to myself...is that really a NEED?

oh but I must confess..I did buy the bias tape maker.....for 80.00 *sigh*
haven't used it yet..also bought a bobbin winder tonight..thought I should test it out then decided didn't want to go through the directions--will try later. ( had a coupon for craft warehouse..thought I should buy something good) 8)

Let me just start by saying the 50% off cupons from Joanns are no savings to me. I have bought so many ruler over time its shameful.
My favorites are my 6x12 /6x24 and my rulers to square up blocks. If I have many strips to cut I like to use my June Taylor Shape cut.
Some of the rulers I just had to have and never used
    Circle Cut
Flying Geese-always do it the hard way
    Easy Angler
    Get square
a whole drawer full I dont remember
the bobbin winder-easier to wind right on machine
Hex rulers-I am going to use the one I bought from Eddie. I have a pattern for that one.
My machine came with so many attachments that I wish I took the time to learn to use.
I think we need lessons on all these rulers.

I have quite a few now that I look at my ruler rack. When I first began quilting I bought rulers I thought I'd need like a 3" X 18" & a 6" X 6 1/2" square, especially after looking at how much the larger sizes were and thinking they were too expensive. As time has passed, I've decided I needed larger ones and have since bought a 12" square, a 6" X 24". These are the two I use most frequently. I also have a 1" X 12", a triangle and 2 new diamonds for making Lone Star quilts. If I'm paper piecing, I use the 6" X 24" to cut my strips and then switch to either the 6" square or the 1" X 12" for trimming each strip after each seam is sewn. I've also purchased a larger cutting mat (24" X 36"). Just about my whole sewing table is covered with cutting mats now. It sure saves wear and tear on my table.

I have a number of different sized rulers, and I have some with yellow markings.. great for dark fabric and black markings for lighter fabrics..
I use some small ones to mark mini quilts, big ones for standard.. I did just buy a 60 degree diamond, but I'm not sure how much I'll use it.. I make clear plastic templates for a lot of the fancy stuff. as for other things.. I'm with Patrice.. besides, I'm kind of an old fashioned girl in that respect. I am getting ready to try out my rotary ruler to cut some 2.5 and 5.5" blocks.. wish me luck.

I think I use the first one that I find that works for what I want to cut.

    Oh, you practical soul, you!
I have often thought, looking at my supply wall, pondering the deepest points of life, that I might be well-served if I would just take one of those unopened packages and MAKE a quilt with it!
Then, I could start a thread about why you do NOT want to own certain template rulers ... LOL
