I have 3. A Baby Lock that is my main go-to machine. A Pfaff for backup and a Pfaff Gradquilter to set up on the frame.

I used to wonder why anyone would want more than one sewing machine - now I have four! A Janome 4800 that I bought when I started to quilt (until then had no interest at all in sewing). A friend gave me an inexpensive little Toyota machine, then a few months ago I bought a Featherweight,mostly out of curiosity, having read so many good things about them. It was love at first sight and I now use it more than the Janome. And yesterday I brought home my latest, a 1950 Singer 201, which I'm hoping to use for free motion quilting. May give away the Toyota, as I don't use it, but the other 3 are all likely to stay in regular use.

I guess I'm one of the "odd ducks" on this thread. I have one machine, a Brother Sewing machine. I'm learning that the model I have isn't much good for quilting, so I have my eye on a Janome. As soon as I can afford it, that's what I intend to get, which will leave me with an Awesome sewing and quilting machine, and a back up that can do piece work pretty well. I'd love to get a serger, but that's down the road. I've partnered up with a terrific woman on Esty's who does my embroidery work. She does such a great job that I'm not interested in getting an embroidery machine, at least at this point in time. I'm too busy learning what I've got, and catching up on quilting after being gone from sewing and quilting over 40 years (and just when did they invent computerized sewing machines?!). So I'm already on a steep learning curve, and don't need more to learn. But that serger would help with finishing edges, and I understand, a whole lot more. But first things first: have to get my Janome. That will give me two sewing machines, and no doubt it will stay that way for quite a while, until I add the serger. I'm not the least bit interesting in collecting sewing machines. However, you should see my incredible Tea Pot collection! As they say, to each his/her own. It seems we all have soft spots for certain things, and that's just life, and not something to be ridiculed or looked down on. It gives us pleasure. I enjoy my tea pots almost as much as I enjoy quilting! Don't make me choose!

I have 3, and am looking for a treadle in case the power goes out. 2 of them I use all time.

I have a 1964 White in a cabinet(my main machine), a Kenmore in a cabinet($10 from Goodwill), a White treadle, a Singer treadle, a newer Singer(my DD has borrowed it for now), a EuroPro(from my SIL) and a Featherweight that I take to class. I'll be getting my DM's Singer301A this winter. I also forgot about my Singer99K given to me by another generous quiltboard member!! I treasure EVERY machine that I have & use ALL of them from time to time!! So I guess I have 8 machines & 1 on the way!!-

Well, each one of mine has a different function. I'll admit I have more than one embroidery machine.

When I upgraded to my 8200 I traded in my old Brother. The dealer told me not to because if I did I wouldn't be able to sew while the 8200 was embroiderying. He was right, so I bought a machine that just sews. My granddaughter has her own machine. Then I bought the Innovis 4000 and what I could get for the 8200 wasn't worth selling or trading. I have 8 granddaughters that some day might use them. A friend was clearing out her house and had an 8500 she gave me.
So that explains all the sewing/embroidery machines.

But, I have a serger, coverstitch, embellisher and blindhemmer. They all do something different. So I'm noting really hording machines. They all have a different function. And believe me, at this time of year I've usually got all three embroidery machines working and sewing on the other ones.

I only have 1 simple one no fuss, and a serger. For now it's ok with me.

I am not even sure how it happened but I have a Jamone that I have had now close to 20 years now that until just a few years ago I use most of the time. Once in awhile I would use my 1905 Singer Treadle machine just to keep it in good running shape. Then I bought my serger, (New Home).
Then something happened.... I decided to try my hand at machine emboridery so I bought a Brother Embrodery Machine, then I traded a quilt I made for myself for another one giving me 2 different model Brother Embroidery machines. My daughter decided I needed a small machine that did nothing but embroidery so she bought me another machine she found at a garage sale. (I think that is 6) I then found a beautiful antique machine at a garage sale that I just had to have. My daughter who knows my love of sewing and sewing machines found 2 more vintage machines and gave them to me for Christmas a year ago. (now we are up to 9). And this summer I got a Grace Quilting Machine system with a Brother 1500s. So unless I missed one somewhere there are 10 sewing machines in my home. All of them are in working order and ready for use at any moment. I can and do sew even when we have power outages. The 4older machines (1905, 1928 ,1931,1960)work just as good as the other machines. I still am not sure how it happened but I do use them. I forgot to mention that I gave 2 sewing machines away over the years) For me different machines work better for different types of sewing. I love them all. Julia

I just love that little "Grasshopper" machine........... I have one too, dont see them often. Do you use yours? Mine sews perfectly,,, as good as a featherweight!
