I made my dd a "memory quilt" when she left home to go to college. Included were things that reminded her of life at home.

One of things she did was go on an archaeological dig to Israel with her dad when she was 17. I tried to find some Hebrew/Jewish fabric. I finally found some on Ebay--I asked her which one she liked and then I paid the price the lady wanted. It was ridiculous--though I can't remember how much--maybe $5-10 or more for one FQ. (Thankfully I've forgotten--just remember that it was high.) The fabric was out of print and perfect for what we needed, though. All I needed was one 6" square. ;)

So, while I'd prefer to pay 99cents for one, I know, that given the right circumstances, I'll pay much more. No criticisms from me if you pay quite a bit because I know I have.

In our area the average price for a FQ is $3. at least. I cant bring myself to get many of them.
I did get a few at Joanns last week when they were on sale and wont buy them again, I have seen tissue paper thicker than the ones they had !!!

No criticism from me either, I was just surprised to see FQs sell for that much.did you post a photo of the quilt you made ? Sounds very interesting.

For me top would probably be $2.50 -3 ea. I just purchased a 'bundle' of 14 on ebay for 34.95 (free ship) so did pay 2.50 ea.

BUT - I had spent several hrs. walking around 3 different stores trying to find a good combo of batiks w/no luck. That was bad enough, I live in the country (using GAS to drive to 15 mi. to town & 3 different stores); I'm 77, have to use a cain for walking, & today my hip is paying for it. :XD:

So for me it was worth 'shopping' on my computer. My hip & my wallet thanked me - just should have done that to begin with! Sometimes we 'pay' in other ways besides $$$$.

In my area some FQ's are up to 2.99 and I would rather buy yardage. I won't pay over 2.50.

Personally I have not yet paid more than $2 for a FQ and are pretty decent quality. I have seen FQ go as high as $4-6 in LQS and online fabric shops depending on brand name of it.

I've never been one to buy FQ's much but lately in the Walmart in a neighboring town now that they have revamped that department I find they have a really good selection of good quality FQ's sets and individuals for $1.47 each so I have started buying some.

I have seen some that I really like that are $4-5 dollars per FQ in other fabric stores but unwilling to pay that much for it especially when our LQS sells great quality brand name fabrics at about that a yard or less if put on the sale table to make room for new fabric that comes in.

I'm afraid I would bypass any FQ that was that expensive.
