My poor Bernina!! RIP
#12
Cathy, I'm so sorry about your poor machine. If you lived closer, I actually have an older Singer you could use until you get a new one. Hopefully someone will be able to help you iout. SO happy that you and Adrian made it out okay and so sorry about the loss of your 2 kitties.

I feel your pain for your machine. I can't imagine. However, I suspect a lot of that smoke/soot will clean up if you're really patient. The odor will likely remain though. Also, I don't understand why your homeowner's won't cover it. I have always assumed that my machines would be covered under my policy. Aren't they considered a household item?
Is it necessary to attach a Rider to the insurance like insuring jewelry?

There is insurance on the property and then there is insurance for content, you can have one without the other, if you have a mortgage the bank will insist that you insure the property and buildings, the other is up to you, that is also what renters would get is insurance on the content as the house and property would be the responsibility of the homeowner.

Like Lacelady said, some things that you own should be listed, and if you have any high end equipment like a long arm or big embroidery machine they may have you put a rider on for them, they will want documents, pictures etc in some case to prove that you own them (in case of theft) and make sure that the content insurance is enough to cover what you have, you would probably be surprised to learn how much your content is worth, even just price out your bathroom, what would it cost to replace everything, toothpaste, shampoo, razors, soap, since you don't buy everything at once it really doesn't seem like much, add brushes, curling irons etc, linens alone are an arm and a leg if you have to replace them all at once,

When our mountain home burned, we had to list everything we had it in and the value. I got a catalog so I could get the prices our of belongings. We did not rebuild so we didn't get full value. We are probably under insured now with all my machines.
