Another vote for black, red, or none. I agree that the daughter should decide since it's her quilt.

I like it with the black sashing, makes the blocks standout.

When I did a Turning 20 with Halloween fabrics I did a double sashing with yellow and orange. First I framed each block block and then added the sashing. You may want to do something similar if it is hard to decide on just one fabric.

If it is truly going to be a 'crazy quilt' I believe they were / are all done with out sashing.
As for the borders and backing I vote for the blue or black.
I wish her well in the fair!

The blue sashing is my favorite but they all look nice.

I like the way the black sashing makes each block stand out. My 2nd choice would be red. A narrow yellow border, since you seem to like the yellow, and then a wider black border. Bind in red. But final decision should be your daughter's.

I like it without the sashing too then use one of the colors for a border. I like the black.

Thanks for all your replies and opinions! She will be reading them all tomorrow and making her final decision. She is leaning towards no sashing, but is still drawn towards the black sashing and is having a hard time making up her mind! She is such a little woman :0)

We will post pictures when she is finished. Thank you all for your well wishes and your compliments on her work. This is her third quilt and I am quite proud of her.
