Some are structured with lecturers, others are more loosely structured. The one I went to could have been called a "Sewing Getaway" instead of a retreat. We went to Shipshewana, Ind. We checked in to our hotel on Thursday around 3:00 and left Sunday at 1:00. There was a huge conference room available 24 hours for us, at the end of the hall where our rooms were located. Last out locks up, first up opens. We each had an 8 foot table for our very own, there were 2 large tables with cutting mats, 4 ironing boards. We set up our sewing machines and sewed, sewed, sewed. Of course we did some shopping. We went out for our meals. There was also a pool and whirlpool.

We have some very talented ladies and guys in our group so there was a lot of sharing going on. One gal showed us how to make a sweatshirt jacket. I did a demo on tube quilting. One of the guys did a quick demo on the "Tater Bag". Another gal showed quick table runners. One of the gals did a purse demo. It was a lot of fun and a great get-away. We all hated to leave. There were some beautiful quilts made that week-end. Also some vests, jackets, blouses, and one gal brought her brand new Pfaff embroidery machine so she could just sit, read the manual, and find out how it works. And, of course, she got to network with others and it was a big help for her to learn her machine.

Some retreats are more structured, have a guest speaker (Lipinski did one not far from here last fall) and you all work on a similar quilt or design. Either way they are a lot of fun.

It depends. I've only been to one but I'm dying to go again. Saving my pennies so I can next summer. The one I went to was held at a golf resort. The resort took care of everything -- food, lodging, even a horse drawn carriage ride to see the elk herds and have a gourmet dinner the last night. There were even a couple of classes and a couple of vendors. All I had to do was to bring my machine and projects (and for folks who were traveling too far, you could rent a machine). It was great!
Hey, post the next one. I'm SE MI also. I'd love to go and know a few others who would be interested also.

It was sponsored by the ASG from a Lansing, Mi chapter but it is open for guests. It is the friendliest group. So, if you'd like to go I'll post in the spring. It takes me about 2 hours to get there, also. We sure do have a lot of fun. It would be great to meet and work on UFO's together and share.

I have never been to a quilting retreat and never heard of one in the area I live. However, that is the best picture of gentle hands and the prayerful thanks from a loving bunny. How lucky you both are. Thank you for making me remember to thank a certain someone for the new day.

My daughter and I try to go to a different one each year. They have
all been different and all been fun. Some sound fantastic; cruises and such, but we look for less expensive ones and have never been disappointed. It is really neat to meet so many great ladies who quilt and share.

Our group has a "Stitch Camp" weekend almost every month, some are sleep over at a Catholic retreat house with dorm rooms and meals provided and some are at a local community center but everyone goes home at night.
It is so much fun!! Everyone brings their own projects and supplies, we sew together in a common room and just enjoy each other's company & creative energy that occurs. I love it.
My daughters thought I was crazy until one of them started going to scrapbooking weekends, now she understands the fun.

I've been on a couple of quilting cruises. Great way for a women to cruise alone. I met a lady from Washington and she was my roommate. Had a great time.

My little group gets together several times a year at someones house or cottage. We pair up to do a meal--cook clean all that goes with a meal. Go out for breakfast. We have great food and treats lots of BEAUTIFUL quilts get made. We are going to my cottage the second weekend in June and doing sweatshirt jackets. Can't wait. I retreat about once a month.
