Unfortunately ALL manufacturers occasionally make a lemon. I had one Pfaff for 12 years, loved it dearly and used it a lot, until the mother board went out. I bought another Pfaff and have been using the heck out of it for 4 years and it works great. There are a myriad of things that could be wrong with your mother's machine relating to the electronics, without any being related to the software. If the machine is still in warranty return it to the dealer and demand a new one at no cost to you. If it is out of warranty return it to the dealer and demand a new machine at minimal cost to you.

You said your mother doesn't speak English, but didn't say what country she lives in, and where she bought the machine and whether it was new. If your mother is not in North America, it could be a power problem, although Pfaff is a European brand, so it should work there, too. Check www.pfaff.com . For most countries, there is an email address for Pfaff (but not for the US - where they search for dealers).

I am sorry about your troubles with the 2044, I have the Pfaff 2044 and love it. Troubles I encounter are of operator error in nature and I have been been able to mostly remedy myself. I do have a Pfaff lady I can call with questions, which helps. I am a total novice to sewing and sewing machines. I bought mine used in 2011.
I did get a Singer 15-91 to do heavy sewing(denim, blue jean quilts), for future FMQ AND to save wear and tear on my Pfaff so it will last me longer. I have bought a Brand new Ford truck and a Dodge both were a lemons. I feel your pain. I have read good things about the Pfaff 1.0 and 1.5...

If I"m not mistaken and please correct me if I am but isn't Pfaff and Singer together nowdays? I don't believe that Pfaff is the great machine it use to be..back when Nancy Zimman used them on her show. I know Singer isn't. Hopefully your mother brought it from a shop and not on line. I know who terrible and nerve wrecking a problem like this can be. Good luck!!

Hey everybody,
i write here on behalf of my mom, she doesn't speak english so i write this for her.
Basically what happened is she bought a new Quilt Expression 2044 a few years back and ever since
this thing is just acting up and making problems , i think we had sent this thing back to get it repaired 4 times now. So there's basically not one month passing without her complaining about this thing..
Today i came home and she told me her sewing machine broke yet again, i got it standing next to me and the display is just completely acting weird, its showing every possible symbol all at once, cant change any settings anymore because of that, neither can you read anything off that screen.
So yet again its probably the electronics/software and I'm fed up with this thing, how can this "premium" high end product be so faulty and inferior!
You guys don't know any solutions by chance do you?
The most aggravating thing is that PFAFF doesn't even have a direct customer support where i can call these guys or write them an email, its just "go to your local sewing shop and ask for help"

I have a Pfaff 2054 sewing machine, bought new eons ago and love that thing! I was thinking, like some of the others here, that it may be an "electrical" problem - like plug in (or a magnet) - hope you can figure it out - otherwise, I agree - use it for a trade in on another machine.
