sometimes a tiny piece of thread can get stuck in the tension disks and can wreak havoc. Been there. Glad all is functioning again.

That happened to me the other night. I started checking diff things to see what it could be, changed all of it, & still did it. I took the bobbin out a final time & low & behold I had Emb thread I'd used last for an Emb Monogram (in bobbin) & Coats Clark in top thread. Once I changed the bobbin thread to CC it worked fine.

Don't you want to question your sanity when these things happen? I had read about the threads in an Emb mag, so thank goodness I had or I'd have thrown the project in the corner. You sound like most of us, hate to take out all the bobbin loops & stitches. Sometimes I've had my 2.5 stitches change into very tiny, tiny stitches & still don't know what causes that. I think I keep forgetting to change my fabric type - woven light, med, heavy, stretch, leather, vinyl. I don't often sew stretch, but occasionally a customer will bring in a piece & I find it difficult to work with, unless it's a light weight. Hated back in 60s, 70s, 80s when the thicker polyester was popular. It didn't wrinkle, but it sure was the devil to sew the seams (for me that is).

My new 830 will not sew if the bobbin runs out and it gives you a percent left in the bobbin starting at 18 %, I love this machine , I have often had a long ways done my older machine and then discovered that the bobbin had ran out then had to start over,

Back in those days all I had was a shuttle singer with the dome top , sewed forward only, had to turn the material around to backstitch ,the polysters worked beautiful, my former husband liked western shirts all french seamed and tapered, He was in comstruction ,had big shoulders and a small waist so the western shirts fit real good.

My 'older model' Brother - I have learned - likes to collect lint under the bobbin case. Between that and this small issue: unevenly wrapped bobbin thread, I think I've discovered what creates that problem for me ... at least for now. I don't like messing with either tension and will only adjust the top. I have to "watch" the bobbins as they are winding and I've slowed the speed down, also. Glad to hear you're up and running again.

when this happens to me I change bobbins and watch when I'm winding them. Sometimes the winding is the problem.

Yes I agree it sounds like your "friendly ghost" was playing while you were asleep and messed up the top thread.

I've had the same thing happen. One day every thing is as smooth as can be, the next day nothing seems to work. At times I am successful cleaning the bobin case and changing needles. Also there have been times when the bobin has had a little thread tail that happened when the bobin was wound. Some times I just wind a new bobin and that helps. Hope you find the answer.
