Question about Ott Lights
#51
I found an Ott bulb at Lowes a couple years ago and put it into a lamp over my machine. It worked fine. Then recently I discovered LED lighting and changed to that. It is brighter, cooler, uses less electricity and the daylight (5000k) bulbs give you true colors. I found them at Wal-Mart for the best price (I am not affiliated with WM in any way). I have an inexpensive swivel lamp I've had for close to 15 years over my machine with the new 18w LED bulb (puts out 100w brightness) in it. Works like a champ!

I Have an Ott floor lamp. The light would go off sometimes, so my husband finally found a lighting company that worked on them. After taking the lamp there, they said they couldn't get parts for the Ott lights anymore, he suggested replacing the 'guts' so we could use regular light bulbs. The Ott bulbs for that floor lamp cost $30 each, replacing the 'guts' only cost us about $50.

I went through 2 look alike floor lamps. The hardware was good and I could get replacement bulbs at a store that specialized in light bulbs, but the ballast would go out. After much searching, I found an Ott at Office Depot - floor model and it was less than $60. That was a couple of years ago. I keep it over my sewing machine but will swivel it around so I have light on a little press and cut.
