I so agree - quilting is definitely my therapy. I have said that for years. I quilt with a radio, tape or nothing - no TV in the quilt room. I like a candle burning sometimes. I love to read but have never tried audio tapes and don't have any desire to 'read' books by tape. When I sew at our property two hours from home I do watch TV while I quilt - or go out on the deck and quilt with the turkeys!

I have a little tv and dvd player. I play seasons of tv shows or old movies. My husband says it's like familiar friends keeping me company. I'm making my nephew a quilt right now and have started on season 2 of "Monk".

When you are quilting do you listen to music, audio books or have tv on?

Who is next?
All of the above. It depends on if my sis is there or a friend. If I am alone I usually listen to my audio book.

Just the radio. I'm afraid if I had a TV in the room I would get distracted. Although I sometimes want a computer to watch my quilt DVD's. I have to go to another room for that.

I own a busy cafe and took up quilting as a way to "escape" the stresses of my daily life. After my last son left home, I commandered his room and converted it to my sanctuary. When needing to concentrate (cutting, measuring etc) I play easy-listening or just instrumental (otherwise I would want to sing along!), and when sewing, or tracing appliques or ironing, I put on music I like to sing to! I do my actual hand quilting and applique out by the TV. I can't even describe how calming every process of quilting is. I would usually sequester myself in my "sanctuary" and loose all track of time, emerging well after 1 or 2 a.m., having lost all track of time(and leaving all stresses behind). Quilting several hours daily was a necessity for my sanity for many years. I now have a cafe manager, so less stressful!

i do the same, mostly so i have some idea what time it is...otherwise i will sew all night.....i like my therapy time....but, when the alarm goes off @ 430 am, sewing until 230-300 really makes for a lousy next day .

Yea; it's definitely therapy. When My dad & father in law were both in the hospital dyeing I thought I was going crazy.
During the first week I ran over to the fabric store across the street & bought some cheater fabric to make my FIL a lap quilt. I made the sandwich that night & started hand quilting on it the next day. It went with me as I went from on room to the other & took care of my MIL ( she has alsimers. (sp?) As We lost one great man then the other my hands stayed busy & my mind calm.
I still have the quilt in a frame. It's about half way done. I work on it when I go to any Dr.'s office while sitting in a waiting room.

quilting is my therapy too. i taught myself to hand quilt 10 years ago. Then 4 years ago I was diagnosed at age 38 with stage 3 colon cancer then 1 year later it was upgraded to stage 4 which :means it had spread to the liver. It is in remission now for over a year due to treatment. and I love to quilt so i use that as my therapy. I like to listen to my music on my mp3 player and just tune the world out whether I am piecing a quilt on my machine or sitting and hand quilting.

When I go to the chemo clinic every Wed. morn. I take my quilting project with me and work on it there too as I am there from 9:00am until about 12:30pm. I'm known there as the quilting lady
