My neighbor who works at Walmart told me that our Walmart raised there prices on everything across the board including fabric and notions. Our store is always so busy I'd think that they should be making a good profit.

I used to hit all the WalMarts I could find every week in search of bargain fabrics of good quality for charity quilts and while there, I picked up other items to fill my cart. Now that the fabric departments are virtually gone, I hardly ever shop at any Wal Mart and have noticed emptier parking lots. If they brought back their fabric departments, it could draw me back into their stores for fabric as well as lots of other things.

Because sometimes it is the only thing you can afford to continue your craft, sometimes because you don't want to spend $8 a yard for fabric for your toddler to drag through mud puddles and for those of us in remote rural areas sometimes it is because it is the only place within 50+ miles to get notions, patterns, fabric or yarn....

I too bought fabric at WM ...;when they h ad it. Mostly for everything I made . (this was before I started wuilting) I NEVER had a problem with the fabic I bought there.

I sure hated it when they cut their 'craft' department out.
It sent me to Hobby Lobby and JoAnns.

Same here, Id be at Wal-Mart 2x-3x times a week, I always made the excuse that we ran out of something and I HAD to go. And well, since I'm there after all, I'll check out the fabric area and grab a few yards and possibly some notions. Hee hee....Now, I can honestly say I'm probably there once a month and that is only if the other grocery stores are closed.. I absolutely hate, hate , HATE going into Walmart now. Most of the items I use to buy are now replaced with their brand. Ugh, and to to pit off, Ive noticed the moral has changed and customer service is almost nil to none.. What a shame..

Ill spend my money elsewhere thank you very much..

Sam Walton's origional idea was to sell all Amercian products in his stores. Now a days most of the things we buy there come from foreign contries. He wanted to make things afordable for all.

I just want to remind everyone that this subject was hashed over this spring and people got pretty hot about it and the subject was locked. We all do what we can to afford our quilting. some of us can't pay as much as others for fabric and glad for those who can pay more for there fabric.

I use WalMart fabric for dog beds, and lots of other stuff but especially to try out blocks or techniques that I'm not sure about, before buying $10 a yard fabric. An added plus is that since I'm not a prewasher, WalMart fabric tends to be a little stiffer than others, making it even easier when working with unfamiliar techniques!
