My room is a tan color like wet sand and is very calming but I agree with the others it is your room. Take these opinions and then do what you want to.

I painted my house Sherwin Williams "Vanilla Cream" It seems to compliment all colors.

Mine is painted a color called "Linen" it has just a hint of yellow. Maybe I was drawn to it because it had a fabric name.

I like stark white. The light will reflect off the wall, giving you more bang for your kilowatt buck. And, you won't have any color reflecting onto your fabric to change the appearance of the colors.
But that's just me. Do what makes you happy.

I just painted mine. Wanted a light green with yellow trim, but the paint is more yellow green so went with white trim. Looks like the color of early spring and I love it. I like happy colors and this is now a happy room. :)

I read a long time ago that yellow will help show the true colors of your fabric, so that's what I painted in my old sewing room. I don't know if it's true or not, but it was very cheery and bright - I loved it!

I think first and foremost, paint it a color that makes you feel happy and creative! Color has the ability to alter our emotions, so go with what makes you feel the best. Warm colors, like orange, red, yellow are lively colors. Cool colors like blue, green and purple are a bit more soothing and calming. Neutrals are just that, pretty neutral, but a nice background in many rooms to let the accessories carry the color and style in the room.
Just my two cents worth! :D :D
