I love my Janome 6600 and my Bernina 530 with BSR. But I would never be without an older all steel machine for really heavy duty sewing. I am partial to my 60s-70s era Kenmores and my even older Singers.

I have the Bernina 830 and love it also. I didn't love it at first. Mine only likes cones of thread. It took me a long time to find that out. And when I threaded it, I missed the arm inside and it would clank, so I took off the face plate when I threaded it for a long time to make sure it caught the arm.
Now everything is groovy and I love her! On YouTube they have a bunch of videos about the 830. I think there are 21. You might want to watch them. Did yours come with a DVD? Mine didn't.
But I love everything about her. I haven't used the embroidery yet. I took one class on it but didn't practice it. I have to take another class.
My dealer is 2 hours away and over a snowy mountain pass. So I can only go in the summer.
Congrats!

I recently ( a year ago) bought a BabyLock Ellure Plus.....had a working Viking (well over 10yrs old), but it was a weak moment.....well, I really dislike the "new" one. All those added features don't really work well.....I still prefer my "old lady"....wish I still had my ancient Singer in cabinet that I bought when first married........it was perfect, but finally it gave up the fight.....now all I have left of her is the desk she snuggled in..........they just don't make them like they used to and the prices are astronomical.......finally got a FW-price was too good to pass up- and she is so cute and works so well.........

My very, very favorite is and has always been my Elna Quilter's Pro 7200 - but it is broken. I live in the very northern part of central Washington (a little on the east side of central) and my husband is my sewing machine mechanic. It has never been broken and I think I've had it for 10 years. Anyway, in talking to the store where I bought it in Southern Calif., he said it sounded like a fuse. Well, duh, I didn't even know sewing machines had fuses. Since my husband is the only sewing machine guy in these parts and has never worked on an Elna (which says a lot for their machines) this will be a learning curve for him. He promised I was next on the list. In the meantime, I'm on my Babylock. That one starts beeping that you're running out of bobbin thread when it's at the half way mark. UGH

First, Isn't it so wonderful there are so many great sewing machines out there these days. I, too, own a Bernina 830 and am enjoying mastering its many features. I also love my Bernina Artista 640 which is light enough to take to classes, etc. I use my Bernina Aurora 440 for piecing as the stitches are so perfect. I started many years ago with my mother's Singer straight stitch. I simply enjoy sewing!
