Boom 21 - Dunes

GramE I couldn't think of anything more feminine then a dressie. I placed the blades so that the small stripe would make a swirl coming out from the center, but it is barely visible. I got the lightest softest pink I had for the center, but still had to use the reverse side of the fabric. The pink isn't any darker then the rose, just more of it in one location. lol Low volume is not my nature, so hoping it is close to what you have in mind.

Thanks, I think for bang for your buck they are one of the easier more forgiving blocks. (though I wouldn't start w/ the 24 blade like this). Precise cutting is a must for the wedges to fit together w/o tenting (to big of a center) or wavy outer edges (to small a center) though the to small center is usually easier to fix. You can do so much variety w/ the blade tip shape, and w/ piecing the blades (when you have a few under your belt) the width and length of the blades. Google dresden plate quilt block images and you will see such a huge variety.

Ok. Working on Stafar’s block today and trying to figure out what size to cut the frame fabric. I made the blue block 8 1/2 inches so thought my frame would need to be 4 1/2 inches but that is way to big so I cut it in half, thinking each side should be 2 1/4? But that would end up 12 not 12 1/2 right..... I’ve confused the hell out of myself! Help?

Stafar, Here's how I see it. You will need 2 strips 2 1/2" x 8 1/2" to sew on the top and bottom of your 8 1/2" blue. Then you will need 2 strips 2 1/2" x 12 1/2" for your sides. I think that will be an unfinished size of 12 1/2" However, I'm kinda new at this also, so hopefully someone else will give some input. btw, you block looks great !

Each frame side should be 2.5 inches. 2.5 + 8.5 = 10.5 (in quilt math) 10.5 + 2.5 = 12.5 when you add and subtract seam allowance.

Correct!
One thing that may help you is to get some quadrille graph paper and draw it out. Sometimes that helps a lot in the beginning. You can use one square per inch or if you’d like, go for the true size of one square for every 1/4 inch. Graph the finished block at 12 inches but remember you’ll need to add 1/4 inch to every side of every piece on that block for cutting purposes.
