Boom 32 Squirrels
#1481
I spent a few hours making blocks and managed, I can hardly believe it, 36!!! Pic below but not in any particular order. I think I’ve got at least another 60 or so to go to make a nice lap sized donation quilt. All the darks and lights are black and white but it’s amazing to see how they read as grey. I need to pick up more whites with less black on them to lighten the quilt. Might run to my LQS to see what they have for FQs.
Sbg, yes, I think we got some of that line of storms you had. It’s all over now and the sun is mostly out. Glad you got your power back. Hoping same for you, Ibex.
Wonder how Terriamn’s travels are going today.
Dug out my bins of candy squares. Omgosh! I didn’t fully realize I have so many. This year I must use them!!!

Good morning from bright and sunny Palmview Texas. Hope all of you that were in the storm’s way yesterday are safe and sound
Drive was much better yesterday, only drove in and out of fog for 4 hours and rest of trip went well. Told hubby there was less traffic than we have seen in previous trips. He said oh they were there we just didn’t see them. Ha ha
After the last month of being outside only to get in and out of the car and into home and shops it was nice to be outside last night. My sister watered my Christmas cacti and one is still blooming that was blooming when we left, a very pleasant surprise and The Minnesota Viking won yesterday against one of our biggest rivals. A good afternoon and evening for sure.
I bought a new paper piecing book and can’t wait to try a few before the next boom
Have a great day

Janice, I recall some chatter about adjusting the size of the pieces we send at the end of the Squirrels Boom. Has that been settled? I would like to start cutting while I have the motivation and the time in the next week or so.

Great question. Unfortunately, WMUTeach, I got very little feedback on the subject. We will definitely keep the main piece of fabric at 10x18 minimum, absolutely no smaller. Those of you wanting to add a second piece, please keep it no larger than 9 inches square. This is larger than previously. Please do not send two full size pieces.

Good looking quilt, Janice! WTG!
We got lights back almost 24 hours after they were lost. Straight line winds or a tornado managed to blow down a bunch of trees and lots of electric line poles came down with the trees. Fortunately, no homes damaged. Considering how many trees and poles came down, our Entergy crews were did great work! New poles installed, roads cleared and electricity flows.
I'm glad to hear you are back in TX for warmer climate, Terriamn. Do you ever wander into Reynosa or Matamoros?

Glad Ibex has power back on, and Terri and hubby are safely in Texas. Janice, the blocks look great. Going to be a really cute quilt. It looks like a Duckworth quilt.
My hand has been numb for about a month now. And there's pain in the center of my palm. Today I finally made an appt with a dr. at Sports Medicine (orthopedics) but my appt. is not til the 7th. I need some patience. It's hard to type when my left pinkie can't hit the 'A' key. Or 'S'.... so I may not be posting as much as usual. I'm still here reading everything, just trying not to type more than I have to.

Good morning. Happy New Year’s Eve. Today is DGD’s fifth birthday. How did that happen so fast?
SBG, hoping you get answers about your hand next week. It’s always difficult to be patient when it’s something important. I’m still waiting on a surgery date for my knee. Patience may be a virtue but it’s challenging.
Been busy working on my color blocks in addition to the square in a square. Planned to go to my LQS for more b/w fabrics but they’re closed until the 2nd so I needed something else to do. Am using my candy squares.
Today I’ll make collards. Super easy and delish, they’re a New Year’s tradition in the south. Don’t know how I lived my life without them until we moved to GA from CA eons ago. Will try to stay awake to ring in the New Year but knowing me, I’ll conk out by 10. lol. Do you all have any special traditions for the New Year?

I always go to celebrate with friends that live about 90 minutes away. They insist that I stay overnight so we can nibble our way through the evening, and play games until the cows come home or the sun rises. (We have never lasted until the sunrises. We are all just too old for that kind of stuff, but we can dream.) After a slow breakfast and lots of chatter, I wander back home and enjoy what ever is waiting for me to do: football, movies, stitching, thinking about putting away some of the holiday decor and on and on.
Have a good time celebrating in your own special way everyone!

Good morning from sunny, warm Alabama! We arrived yesterday to the camelias and many azaleas in full bloom, so pretty to see.
SBG, hope they can find a reason for the numbness and discomfort in your hand.
Janice, can't believe that Charlie is already 5 years old!
Our New Years tradition is to eat pickled herring and raw beef and onion open faced sandwiches. It's supposed to bring prosperity and good health in the New Year. Here in the south they celebrate with fireworks on New Years eve, that doesn't happen in Wisconsin, it's always too cold to be outside to set off fireworks.
