i've only touched the surface but it looks like they have a bunch of variations on the DJ blocks and some of them are different to be more like the original jane block (brenda the author of the book didn't do truly accurate line drawings) while some of them have seams added to make the easier to piece.
the software costs a bit more than the book but if you can only have one and wish to have help and ease with making the quilt, hands down buy the software.
joannes has it on sale and the shipping is free.

wow you guys are doing such an awesome job.
we were in Newport, RI at the jazz festival so i won't have a chance to do the jane blocks until tomorrow.
i can't wait to get a crack at them.
this is just so exciting.
i've even starting putting together a game plan for the sew along - i hope to do 1 week off every 6 weeks so people can catch up or take a break and then i want to put easy blocks in June, July, and August that way people can enjoy the summer but still get some work done.
i also plan on putting up a tute on my method of applique - i think its a little different than most people on the forum use.
i explained the method to pam and she used it on the americana quilt she posted yesterday and she was overall happy with the results and found it to be user friendly.
her and i chatted in PM yesterday and she'll add her tips and comments on the applique tute when i post it in jan for the jane blocks.

KLue, check out this blog...I have only looked at a few of her entries, but I imagine this is similar to what we'll be doing, only instead of a blog, it will be thru this forum. I wonder if there's anything we can do with the board to keep it under control - seems like it might become an unwieldy sort of thread. I wonder if Patrice has any input??

yes, she has done a nice job of posting her method for the blocks.
we will have to talk with admin/mod about how they want the sew along to operate on the forum.
its a big project that will last 12-16 months and maybe its something that they would like to keep as a perm record on the forum so that new comers can just follow the directions to make a jane.
once we come together as a group in oct/nov and hammer out the final details of what everyone would like to get from the project we can contact admin/mods and let them know the scope of the project and ask for guidance on how they wish for us to proceed.

I like the idea of a permanent record of the sew along. I am just starting to try this out and will buy the software hopefully within the next couple of months. I know I am not ready now for a sew along so maybe I could check that out later at my own speed-slow.
