It seems we have a little cottontail at our place too. This little guy keeps hanging out in our yard. I have seen him all over the front yard and hopping along down both sides of the house when he gets startled. On the day I took this picture, I pulled up at the house, got out and walked up the sidewalk, but he never moved. I went inside & pointed him out to the man out the window & we just sat there & watched him until a loud pickup drove by & startled him & he hid in the bushes just outside the photo to the left for a few minutes. Eventually he came back out in the middle of the yard and sat there a while longer. There's woods out behind the houses across the street, so I'm guessing that is where he came from, but he seems to like us. I bought some baby carrots for Dusty to snack on when I went to the store the other day. I'm going to put a few out & see if he eats them too.

Sorry I have been MIA. I have been battling an upper respiratory infection. Spent several days in the hospital over the past 2 weeks. Home now I had to put down my runner for Elizabrat because I ran out of fabric. Got everything recut and pieced. I am a hand quilter and very slow at it. Shouldn't be much longer now. I will keep you posted. My downfall is time management. Sorry.

my quilt is coming along pretty well. i will put the borders on, then sandwich and start to quilt. i'm pleased with it even tho' it has glaring flaws. some of my squares weren't squared and i had starched the heck out of them, too. so, it is what it is and i LOVE the colors! now, to find my darn camera.
brat, sorry i missed dinner! i gently nudged dh into taking me out to eat. i just didn't have anything in the house i felt like cooking! wyoming is a bit of a hike just for dinner, lol. my dad was born in cheyenne. i've driven through a couple times and was awed by the gorgeous striations of rock colors! i won't do the grand canyon. terrible fear of heights! goes with a rotten thyroid. looking down means you are higher than what's below you, even if you are at sea level. i actually break out in hives! dh knows if i 'jump' from a high building to commit suicide, it is murder. i wouldn't be caught dead there to begin with and no way would i jump! but to save anyone the trouble i would faint, and then i could be rolled over the edge. went to the empire state building and the elevator was too full so i wouldn't go up in it. a friend of mine waited with me for the next car. we went up, the doors opened and i went down, fainted right away. they hauled me back into the elevator and took me back down. the floor is black and white marble checker board. that's all i saw. lol.

hope you continue to feel better , queen! those things can really drag you down. just take it easy to get your strength back! and don't forget the good chicken soup. also. a peppermint sauna facial/ breathing treatment will help you feel better. hot water in a large mixing bowl, a couple drops of mint flavoring, a towel over your head as a tent and breathe in the steam. it's also good for your facial pores. win/win!

never had fried artichoke hearts, but a friend of mine used to make killer marinated artichoke hearts! i love the funnel cakes and the deep fried ice cream. and the corny dogs at the texas state fair. maybe they have wheelchairs at the fair. do you have someone to push you?(hint, hint, steve!) gotta put those burly muscles to work, studboy! ooo, ooo! i just remembered, the belgian waffles! with strawberries and whipped cream. one year i was all set to try the deep fried snickers bar, but couldn't rid myself of you know who, who i'm sure would give me that look, and then ask for a bite and take a good quarter of it! that's the original fat quarter!! that fewer calories for me! tonight, this same man, stopped at stryers' farm and bought me a pound of their home-made rice pudding! omgoodness, on a spoon! i ate the whole container full! all $7 worth! guess you just better make me walk around the fair and no naughty treats..... but i'm sure the saltwater taffy wouldn't hurt me. of course, there's the mercado and the tacos, burritos, gorditos, et ceteros! i've been outed! i go to the fair to eat!! i walk the shortest distance from one food booth to the next, lol! oh, and the arts and textiles in the women's bldg! all those yummy quilts, and antique dolls, and stuff that people have made. glorious!! oh, and we have to go to see the livestock! the french lop rabbits, the two-ton hogs, the lambs, the knights from the castle and their andalusian horses. my own ds was a knight at medeival times. i had a crush on ralph and james, and 3 of the horses! lol. good times! then there's all the homemade crafts for sale, and the musical performances. our family was all teachers and students so we had free tickets nearly every year! and with the state fair right there in dallas there was no excuse not to go!! oh, i forgot, if you have any room left be sure and get the sausage with peppers in a roll, mmmmmyum!! okay, you can roll on home now! thank you! i had a great time!!

oh a good italian sausage on a roll with the peppers OMG those are so good too but filling! I never eat the sweets but buy peanut brittle because my father used to buy his peanut brittle at the fair. I dont even eat much of it but its a good memory .. I have looked at fried snickers and they kinda looked.... greasy and same with twinkies. omg who fries twinkies? who eats twinkies (Steve). Tapico pudding.. yum.. vanilla sent, fresh mom used to make that all the time. wow two memories in one posting. your scoring today girly! I guess we are the only ones who love fair food. Its a guilty pleasure I guess. I don't care for fast food. Last two times we went to WENDYS I had a salad with cranberries and apples and pecans and a great vinegrette. I don't usually order a burger or fries. I like them but well they are not like the ones you make at home. So when I go to the fair I am single minded where are my.. and at the art and wine fair Los Altos used to have I could get my artichoke hearts. I love those things. That and at the artichoke fesitval in the Montery area who can not go to that one in Ca ? ok I used to go to the Pumpkin festival for the same reason. love the arts and crafts loved those artichoke hearts more. HEY Jaba has a deep fryer! anyone have a recipe for batter for frying something like that??? heck we can skip the fair and btw I swear Nancia your my relative i know it. I go for the food, the crafts, the fruitveggie jam displays and the quilts and then if there is any energy i go to the barker one selling stuff to get my free jar opener lol and peanut brittle. goofy fun those fairs are. I don't like going for the entertainment mostly because we always go see REO in CA there. Oh joy my unfavorite band. He loves them. Sheesh get out of the time warp!!!

For me, fair food is footlong chili dogs made by the Columbus (Ga) Exchange Club. I don't have childhood fair food memories. My dad hated the fair, so I didn't go with him until I was a teenager, when his 4th wife and her 4 kids forced him to go & so we went every year then. When I was a kid, the first time I remember going to the fair was when we went on Halloween, and I was in a bad plastic costume of I don't know what little girl was the fad at the time, with a plastic blondheaded mask. The highlight of the evening, if you could call it that, was seeing Tanya Tucker perform for free, and me sitting there the whole time wondering what rooftop she jumped off of to get in that skin tight red leather bodysuit she was wearing. I think I was about 7-8 years old.

Mother took me and my friends in junior high, but we were all about the rides by then. Dad always said they weren't safe, which is why he didn't want to go, but we loved them anyway. The last time we went, when I was in high school, a roller coaster flew off the tracks the night after we were there, so he refused to ever go back, saying his point had been proven. I'd just ridden that coaster when we were there the night before.

When I was married, my ex liked to go to these 2 events in Columbus, GA every year for the food. One was "The Taste of Columbus" and the other is the Columbus Day festival, which goes all weekend. The first is a 1-day/night thing that started out indoors & has gotten so big it's a street fair now, where local caterers and (mostly) new restaurants give you a chance to try their food a la carte. They used to do it where you paid with special poker chip type coins, but it's gotten too big now & you just pay all the vendors like anywhere else. The Columbus Day thing is huge, and includes kiddie rides & games, a barbecue competition, 4 days of live music (Fri night - Mon night), craft competitions, and historical demonstrations. Of course, anything I did or anywhere I went with the ex, the man wants no part of though, so I haven't been in 8 years.

you can eat all the clams and linguine you want. i only eat the ipswich fresh fried clams (lived just down the street from ipswich so i know from fried clams!) we also were down the street from the world famous topsfield fair. was terrific fun till melanie jane lost lunch on the salt and pepper ride. or was it the flying teacups? don't know how i ever went back and still ate fair food. lololol! poor melanie. she had a thing about oopsy-ing. we went to a special screening of gone with the wind and she spent the movie in the ladies, redistributing her chocolate chip muffin breakfast. she died a couple years ago. went in for chemo for esophageal cancer and had a heart attack. really, my best friend from high school, gone. of course, to this day i will not ear chocolate chip muffins!
i love italian food! married into a brooklyn kosher family. my dmil bought everything at the deli and brought it home and put it in serving dishes. lol. so when dh says, yum, just like mother used to make, i thump him on the head! i will not be compared to her take-out! sheesh! ( the desserts were the best! ny cheesecake, hard to beat!!) man, this is making me hungry. dh is having dinner with out of town folks, and my poor car is having it's first major repair in 13 years! so, i'm scrounging in the kitchen of old mother hubberd! the burning smell i noticed in my car, after the air conditioner quit, was the ac compresser. 800 smackers later, and tomorrow at the earkiest, i will have a nice cool car again. i drove it to the garage this a.m. around 8, and was sweating after 5 minutes in the car (nearly the whole ride, lol. hot stuff around here!
