    It has been 8 years since I lost my mom at 93 and them taking her out of my home was the hardest thing I have ever had to do..wish there had been a passage quilt for her...I've never heard of this...still miss her everyday...took me 6 years to get back to quilting again..got all her things..but just grieved so long...one day happened upon this Quilting Board and all the wonderful things that are said and done on here got me back to quilting..I'm so thankful for this...now I think of my mom when I'm sewing and remember all the wonderful things we did together...Thanks Quilting Board...

    I'm so sorry for your loss of your mom...she will be with you every day...in your heart and all the memories...God Bless...

    I, too, am so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing & know your pain. I miss my Mother every day of my life. You were so lucky to be able to be with your Mother as she crossed over. Please accept my deepest condolences.

    These quilt are just beautiful... both in sentiment & in execution. Is the heart one a 4-patch variation?

    Every day I hope your heart heals a little more. {{{ H U G S }}}

    Sorry for the loss of your mother. The passage quilt is a lovely idea and wish I had known of this when I lost my mom four years ago. It was very hard for us, as she was only 56. I do have some of her clothing so maybe I can make something for all of us out of her clothes. Peace and comfort to you and your family.... Erin

    Doesn't matter how old they are ARE how old we are, we still miss our Mothers.

    Ditto again. I have never heard of passage quilts before. What a beautiful gesture. I do have a question though. When you say you donate them to nursing homes, hospice, funeral homes, etc. do they use the quilt for just one person or do they use them for more than one person? We lost one of the groomsmen that was in our wedding last week. He had been at hospice and they requested donations to hospice instead of flowers. He was only 52 - how sad but I know he is in a better place now.

    My sincere condolences for the loss of your mother. She lived a very long time and it was wonderful for you to be there with her at that moment.

    What a thoughtful idea, I have never heard of passage quilts either but it is a wonderful wonderful thing and yours is just beautiful. I had hospice for 5 months when my husband was ill and that would make a really great pay it forward for all of the wonderful people who shared in my husbands life during those 5 months and the care and that was also shown to me during that time. I will have to think heavily on this idea. Does the passage quilt go to the deceased's family or does it stay with the group it is given to and reused for other families? Either way, it is a beautiful way to start your loved one on their next journey.

    Thanks so much for sharing your story and the inspiration to make some to for Hospice.

    The Passage Quilts are kept by the organization we gave them to. Our first was made with the purpose of easing the site of body bags going out of the building for the residents of the local nursing home. We didn't realize the effect on the families until after it was used the first time.
