I've usually been pretty good at not starting anything I won't finish. Now I can't say that any more. I have 38 at last count UFO's. A third of this are quilts that just need quilting. A third needs piecing and or Applique. The final third are designed but never started. Several of those designed have been sitting around for years. This is my year to catch up. I'm hoping joining this thread will help keep me on my goal.

Seems like once you start the UFO ride it just snowballs. I'm like a Magpie, Oh that's pretty, Ooh I like that, and so it begins

My conclusion on those that are in the design stage and kitted but not cut (unless purchased as a kit), I have taken the fabric, put it back in the stash, put the pattern on the shelf for safe keeping. It was freeing for me. If I went with every idea or desire for the quilt, I would be way over 100 and counting.

Have caught up on a mystery BOM that I was 4 months behind, also caught up on another BOM that I have the first three months. Also completed the first month BOM from my LQS, so I will not have to pay $10 for the month 2 block!!!!.. I am now starting to work on a few BOM groups on the net. Once I get all of the BOM done for this month will start work on the two kits I have. One of the BOM I am doing should be done for our annual family trip to the beach and the yearly quilt I make for the trip etc.

When I say design, I mean applique that I've designed but haven't even kitted. I love to design new quilts but don't always find the time to do them. These are quilts that I really want to do but have to kick myself to get them started. Some of them have been designed for years therefore I consider them UFO's.

PecksPieces: If use EQ all the time, if I had to count designed as UFOs I would have in the hundreds.

Good luck with that PecksPieces. The execution sometimes is the hardest for me.

UFO's by stage;

1. top pieced, need to be layered, quilted and bound--3, all from 2013
2. Partially quilted--1 from 1994
3. partially pieced--1 started 2 years ago
4. kitted and patterned--2 quilts for Linus kitted in December
5. QAYG string quilt with 2/3 of the blocks done. Needs remaining blocks, joining, binding. Actually needs to wait until there are more strips created to finish the blocks
6. still partially in my head but has 15 fabrics and 14 spools of thread picked out to try to make the northern lights--1

That adds to nine. Not as bad as i would have thought. Does refinishing a treadle mechanism and getting the machine to sew correctly count?

Well, I'm down to 3 UFOs. I didn't count PIGS, I'll start on them when I finish all my UFOs. The third project I finished I was hand quilting but it was taking too long and I didn't like it! So I ripped it out and FMQed it. The Thanksgiving wallhanging is the first UFO I finished this month. That one just needed the hanging sleeve sewn down. Unfortunately the two that are left are a paper piecing project barely begun and a stained glass applique wallhanging barely begun.

DING DONG DING DONG!!!! Ringing the bell for some awesome finishes!!! Way to go all.
I think QM has something going with the idea of if it's not cut yet, and only pulled fabrics, putting them back on the shelf is a very real option. Especially if it's not a commitment to someone that's running months or years late. LOL
