@happylab, do tell if EQ8 is easier than EQ7. I have 7 and have been bogged down with someone in my head shouting do this and then do that. I don't think I try hard enough, but at age 71, things have slowed down.

He suggested we also go to some of the quilt shops in the area. I actually put the addresses in our GPS before we left, but when he was done with all his errands, I told him to skip the quilt shops. I really couldn't think of any fabric I really needed. Trying to separate those wants & needs...
Fantastic...way to go!

10 minute block or 5 minute block will certainly use up scraps.

Use your own equal cut squares no pictures for displaying. Will be rapid but fun sewing.

Battleaxe, so far the upgrading to 8 was a lot easier than putting in 7. I bought the lesson book and will be using that daily for a while. I also plan to buy the book for the 8, when we can. I did down load the e-books which were free, but I like to have a hard copy book handy when I learn things. I was a little bit smarter this time and gathered all of the required info prior to upgrading. I’m excited about using it for finishing quilts and eventually creating my own quilts and making them. At this moment, I’m Very happy I upgraded. By the way I never figured out how to use the 7 very well. I’m told that maybe a good thing. By the way this is my Bd present to me from me.

I didn't upgrade to EQ8. At this point I am comfortable with what I want to do with 7 as I've had it since 2010. I'm not interested in embroidery or quilting stitch designs so staying inside my comfort zone. If the new version is easier for others, I would say "go for it"!

Maybe I should have upgraded while they had the special price. I've got 7, but have never used it for anything other than doing the lessons in the books and in the tutorials on-line and in the program--- just find it much easier and quicker to go to my trusty graph paper and color pencils if I'm having a design dilemma.... I've been thinking about going through Rhonda's tutorials to see if that would help me start using EQ7 more... I got it because I like to design my own quilts, and enjoy making quilts with very unequally sized blocks that then need to be fit together using fill strips, etc. I usually make the blocks first, then spend time playing on the design wall to decide on placement, then have to spend lots of time measuring etc. to figure size of fill strips and such. I had hoped that I could do all that stuff in EQ7 rather than doing it on the design wall but none of the lessons in the books, or in any of the tutorials put out by EQ show how to do what I want to do--and I haven't taken the time to play with it enough to figure out anything beyond the basic lessons...anyway I decided that I might be throwing good money after bad if I paid to upgrade and still didn't use it.

You didn't want to stop at the LQS, princess? R U OK? lol Good job!

The hubs and I saw a sign on the way to breakfast "QUILT SHOW" so after eating we stopped. I was in a bit of a funk. 4 days without electricity and a cold shower did me in. The show was meh (again, probably my mood as there were MANY very bright and happy quilts displayed). The vendors were close to the displays so I had to look. What came home with me was a pink Dream batting, a pattern and rings for one of those pop-up containers, and 24 yards of fabric of the 108" wide variety. The most expensive one was $5 a yard. I figured for backing and a neutral tone-on-tone off white....I would be outside the guidelines. Now to find room for it all. sigh. I need the lights back on. Hopefully tomorrow!

Martina: what's with the power outage? You need to pay that electric bill instead of spending all your money on fabric :-).
but, wow, wide backing@ $5 a yard! Don't think I've ever seen it that low. I think you showed great restraint with only 24 yards.

If the price is right, buy the fabric.

Our outage was scheduled as Pat had to replace the main panel. Unfortunately the county scheduled the inspector for Friday which was a holiday. They called the house phone to notify us on Thursday but the power had already been turned off. So we lived with modified access to modern amenities for a few days. Made me appreciate my hot shower this morning so much more.
