Anyone going to do this year’s Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt? She sent out the color information. It starts November 24th. Another way to use up more stash.

I think i did really good in not buying too much fabric this year. I started some projects and used about 75-100% of stash to make the projects. Most of the projects I did buy for was for background or backing. So i’m happy with my not buying too much.

I did get into a BOM at a lqs. It’s one of those where we pay $15.00 upfront, and pay $5.00 for the 1st block. If we complete the block and bring it in the 1st Saturday of the month, then we get the next block free. If not we pay $5.00 for the months block. Tomorrow morning I need to get up and make my block. It will take me 1-2 hours to make the block. I’ll post pics when I make the block.

I’ve been working my way through the exercises in a book about thread. I got it used a couple of months ago because I have developed quite a thread stash over the years. I do use all the threads that I have, but felt the need for some inspiration since I tend to do mainly FMQ with them. Anyway, the book is like a workshop and by the time you’ve done all the exercises, you end up with a “fabric book” of 5”x 7 or 8” pages (they call it a passport) and also a number of larger pages that are 11 to 12 inches square (they call them portfolio pages). So...... I’m not even a quarter of the way through the exercises and I’ve already used 4 to 5 yards of stash fabric and a couple spools of vintage polyester and cotton wrapped poly from my thread stash, and also some embellishments (ribbon, yarn, etc.) from my embellishment stash.

I’m liking this book a lot LOL

Oksewglad: Did you get the fabric you wanted at your LQS?

I had a section of tumblers sewn together and didn’t want to cut anymore so I decided to use donated orphan blocks and add sashing and borders to finish it. 68” by 75”

As Rob says...a modern look, retired teach, plus a graphic look.
And yes found the background fabric for the City blocks...now to cut it. It will take a little figuring out as it's not the typical block and sash setting and need to make the most of my fabric.
I also fell a little when I went to visit my aunt on Friday. Took a side trip to a town that has 2 shops...one well established that I like and then a new one down the street. Found fabric at #1 to finish off another quilt and ooops fell when I went to the new shop..not too much, but...But I don't plan on needing anything past the end of the year.

Rob, Here's a hand to get back up. Glad the fabric you wanted jumped into your cart. You know fabric is like puppies, they want a good home too. LOL Have fun sewing, I love seeing your pics.

Retired, I like your scrappy, good use of extra blocks. Someone will like your quilt.

I've been totally falling down on my hostess job on this thread, but it looks like you have all carried on without me!
The official end of our fabric diet is the US Black Friday, November 24. This, of course is just the suggested day
Personalization of this effort is encouraged, so you can carry on the whole year, or stop earlier.

Don't know if anyone remembers, but I do wedding stationery & have been totally tied up doing very elaborate wedding invitations for a great niece. Lots and lots of hours. They went into the mail last week, so I have a bit of reprieve before starting the wedding paper stuff (programs, escort cards guest book, menus, table decorations, thank you cards... Sheesh!). The up side is I haven't purchased any fabric for a couple months.
I will not talk about my paper stash, however.
I did manage to make the orange blocks for my pumpkin quilt (Bonnie Hunter's Punkin' Patch). They were strip pieced and so much fun to make! I didn't paper piece them as the pattern stated, just sewed strips together. Got carried away. Needed 49 and made over 100.

I would love to have a thread again for 2018. I have fallen off the wagon many times, mostly trip purchases, but have shopped my stash first. Love reading every ones stories justifying our purchases. Thanks PaperPrincess for doing this.

Even though you may have fallen off the wagon many times, don't you find that you have fallen off less often that you did in the past? And you did shop your stash first so for me I am thinking they are all postives and plus in your efforts and that is the goal of all this I am thinking. Sounds to me for the most part everyone has done well for the year. I know I am pleased with myself. I have only bought 4 yards total all year and have used all of it and a great deal in the stash. It also encouraged me to straighten out and organize my stash. Often times purchases were made because I didn't feel like pawing thru stuff to match. So major progress in a lot of areas in this year thanks to everyone.
