Hi!

Thanks jclinganrey for the posting the first step!

I'm going scrappy, so my process is a bit different... but I still feel grateful for your company and your inspiration

I had a very bussy weekend and could'nt sew as much as I planned, but at least I managed to put another block together, here's a picture with the first one I made:

I'm a slow quilter and I'm sure this will cost me a lot of moons, but I really want to finish it. For keeping my sanity I've decided that my goal will be to do just one block a week (if possible). I work full time and I have more projects on the go that I need to finish soon, so I think I will do some ironing/cutting of scraps on the weekend and I'll try to do a bit of sewing over the week (even if it's only 15-20 minutes a day).

Frustratedquilter, I love your reds... can't wait for more pictures!

Silk, The feather quilting motif is lovely on the blocks of the quilt in the link you posted! There were lots of quilts sewn in this color scheme after 'Tone It Down' was published.
Yes, givio... wow, I really love all those quilts. I aim to do something like that!

I've been doing enough scrappy stuff that I wanted to go a different route with this one. Decided to jump out of my comfort zone and do purple. Purple is my least favorite color - so I'm having a hard time deciding if this will look good or not. If you like purple, does this appeal to you?

Silk yours is going to look so light and airy! One step at a time, right?

Macybaby...this is an interesting combination and I think it will be very striking when all is finished. It looked a little odd at first, but then I noticed you have one 9P cornerstone and sashing on the left side and top. The eye will definitely be drawn into the center of each block.

I have most of the basket quilt quilted...taking a break, make the binding and possibly sew it on. Then will cut my background pieces. Later.....

Oh my! Just now seeing this and this has been on my "to do" list for years!!!! I'm working on another quilt which only uses 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 strips plus 5- 2 1/2 squares in a batik and black and I find myself with leftovers. I had the idea to make a scrappy with a black background but with these leftovers I'm wondering if they will work. I need to study the pattern to see if I have enough of the batik because I can't get any more. Any suggestions are welcome. It's not a good time for me, but I'll be following along and may join if I can squeeze it in.

Silk, love the scrappy. That's going to look wonderful in a quilt.

Macybaby, great colors. That is daring making purple as a background color but I like it. Go for it.

I'm not much of a purple person either, Macybaby, but I think it looks good. Are you going to be using only purple, or will you introduce a splash of different colors here and there? I started a purple quilt for a couple (the girl's favorite color is purple) and I found that by bringing in a little buttery yellows and some soft greens and even a few deep forest greens it made the purple more bearable! The couple unfortunately broke up before getting married, so I still have the top unquilted but it's on the to-do list.

You have such a good eye for color and design I am sure your quilt will be stunning!

Macybaby, on my monitor it doesn't really look purple, more like magenta. It's really pretty!

Thanks everyone for the comments. The more I look at it, the more I don't like it. I think I'm going to mess around with it a bit more, I'm not liking the bold contrast between the two purples. I really want the four patch in the center to pop, and it's the light purple that is standing out.

Maybe I'll try with the dark purple outside like it currently is, then light green floral for the inside with the light purple being the chain, and the dark green for the center. That may give more balance than it has right now.

maybe I should give up on trying to use the purple for this quilt. I'm constrained by the yardage of have on hand. I really do like these four colors together, but this may not be the pattern for them.

Silk I love your scrappy! I was going to do mine that way but then I decided to go another route at the last minute.

Macybaby I think your color combo will work fine. Even though you don't love purple I am sure someone you knows does.

Keep the pics coming love doing QAL's as everyone brings another perspective on the same pattern and creates something stunning.
