I wasn't going to jump on this year. The last two years I just had a nice ride along. I lost my parents in that time and just now feel like I can live for myself again. The local sewing group did an all day sew on Saturday and I took my 4 patch posey to work on. I learned to do sashing with corner stones, what a difference it made. Now for some boarders to finish the top. It won't be a January finish but I feel excited to sew again. Thank you for all the encouragement you give to each other. You are a true blessing to many of us.

I want to join in the fun. I have been lurking for the last two weeks and need to get several completed. Most of the tops are done, but they have yet to be sandwiched and bound.
Wish me luck! |
I'd love this quilt, CarolinePaj! It's cheery, fun AND educational! Congratulations on a wonderful UFO finish. Toot, Toot

Hi Guys,
Well I have managed to keep up my commitment (1 per month, made up of 6 small and 6 larger projects)... here is my first... so that is January ticked off! Hugs Caroline |
I haven't finished any quilting UFO's yet this year, however, yesterday as I was looking for some specific fabric, I found a suede tote I started in 2000! It took me less than an hour to finish. It also opened up a little more space in my drawer. Now on to my quilting UFO's.

Sophie2, A finish is a finish, so you get credit for finishing your tote if you want to take it. We'd love to see a photo and ohhh and ahhhh over it. Anything that gets one more project out of our storage spaces and into use is what we are all about!!
Way to go Sophie2!!! Countrymaid, so happy to have you with us! This is a fun place even if one is only along for the ride. We take all the cheerleaders we can get. And if you get some healing, sewing and smiles along the way, that is what we are all about. Hugs and smiles of welcome to all the newcomets! LOL.. I was going to edit the typo as I meant to type newcomers, but heck, maybe you guys are UFO finishers extraordinaire and will fly thru the UFOs like comets!! |
Well I haven't been much of an encourager or supporter, at least not by posting, but I have been busy trying to get a UFO completed by the end of the month. Hope to be able to post pictures next week!
|
Caroline- fun quilt, good job on those finishes.
Sophie2- it's a UFO and it's done! Congratulations! Rob |
Last night I finished a quilt that will be gifted to a friend that helped us on our recent move. It is MSQC pattern - Disappearing Hour Glass. Was fun and easy to do and may make another one when my pile of UFO's gets smaller! I am having trouble loading the picture. Will try later to post a picture.
|
I am finally finishing up a table runner that has been languishing in the closet!! close to done with the stitching so should be able to get it bound today or tomorrow! :)
|
I have some batting scraps I can sew together for the batting in my wall hanging. All the pieces are put together so now on to sandwiching.
|

Juanitabean-Great quilt! I love your use of colors and the setting. What a great way to showcase those embroidered blocks and also incorporate them into the quilt so it all works together as a unified piece.

Beautiful finished quilt. I love the way you've set the blocks. Very unique. I have a great-granddaughter due in June, I might try this on her quilt.
|
JuanitaBean, the multi-colored off-kilter setting adds so much interest to those blocks! Just beautiful.
|
As always, JuanitaBean, your work is just beautiful!!
My patterns for patchwork animals should arrive today, so I will quickly finish a couple of critters this week from two yardsale tops. So, wonder how many UFO's should I count this way? I'll be using up two tops, but probably be creating about 7-8 patchwork critters. I guess it could be counted either way, and in a sense, one critter would be like one small wallhanging or perhaps a mug-rug, right? I haven't been posting in this area much, as I've been covered up with customer quilts, but I HAVE been watching!! Perhaps we're off to a little slower start this year, but I think we'll pick up steam as the year progresses. |
JBean...so is there a little girl out there to love this quilt?
|
JuanitaBean, what a clever way to showcase those embroidery blocks. There must be a special little girl out there waiting to treasure this sweet quilt.
|
Love that skewed setting. What a pretty quilt.
|
Yes I hope so. What I'm trying to is do is get some extra baby quilt made up for my 5 grandkids. They are not married yet so if I'm not here they will have something from me that I made for my great grandkids. Hope this doesn't sound bad.
|
I don't think so, JB....it'll be special gifts in the future from the past. :-)
|
JB that is a wonderful idea. I once made a baby quilt for a coworker who nearly cried when he opened it.
His grandmother had passed the year before so he did not think his son would have a quilt of his own to snuggle with like he did growing up as no one else in his family quilted. I was so touched that it meant that much that him. |
JuanitaBean, what a lovely and beautiful way to leave your legacy. Just gorgeous
|
I'm in, too many UFOs here. I'll try to do 6 yr. Wish me luck!!!
hugs, dj |

Sophie, if it's from 2000, and it was sewing related, I'd say it counts as a UFO for the purposes of this board. It doesn't matter if it took an hour or a month, you finished it so toot, toot for you!

Congratulations, JuanitaBean! It's beautiful and into January's tally it goes. :). Toot, toot!

I believe I'd count individual finishes. If you make three projects from one old top, I'd count it as three UFO finishes but it's what you think that counts. :)

I am looking thru and catching up real quick this am. Good thing no one around, they would hear me say "Oh adorable, how sweet, oh my gosh, wow." I just love the alphabet finish. That is so cute. Autumn has my favorite colors. And that SBS, how adorable is that.
I do have three finishes, but no photos uploaded yet. IN the middle of a quilt show entry, a wedding dress for a wearable art competition. Once it is done on Sunday, will get to my photos. Plus hubby has been in the hospital. He is ok, but they bruised his colon pretty bad, bad enough shows on CT scan. So been dealing with that as well. He is back to work. Well, I better finish up my payroll and OSHA stuff so I can move onto some fun stuff, like Employment Security paperwork. Oh to play in quilting all day, that would be the life. |

hugs, dj I have not set a number because I did last year and got a whopping "O". (Too many broken bones and surgeries to take on UFOs.) Now I have finished one UFO and have one more from last year's guild exchange blocks. Then I can dive into the unfinished pile. But then there is the top I made during the holidays, the two baby quilts I need for family, and a baby quilt for a student who "found" herself expecting. She needs the encouragement and then I want to make at least two larger quilts for colleagues who just need one. How many does that add up to? 5 Maybe a UFO will work for a colleague? Hummmmmmm. |
I'll be offline for a couple of days but I'll check back in as soon as I can. The hubs has obligations this weekend so I will be one quiltin' fool.
|
I Finised my table runner and the Christmas quilt is now a top-which is one step closer to being a quilt! Now to start the Mickey mouse quilt for my grandson who lives with me, He is 3 and it is for his big boy bed

January UFO's

I was in the 2016 UFO challenge and actually finished 10 quilts, in addition to starting new ones. This year I'm jumping in again - it's definitely an incentive to get things done. This month I have been finishing a lot of small embroidery projects that I'm making into small wallhangings. I also finished this shaded flower appliqué that can be used as a wallhanging or a table runner. Now onto finishing a couple more embroidery projects.....
