Well, cherrybsixty, it's like kids coming back to mom's. Time to finish it and send it on its way AGAIN.

So very true, Martina, thank you I will get right on it because it's for a good cause. Happy sewing everyone.

Grinch 03-29-2017 06:04 PM

DJ, that is beautiful!! I love the pillow!!

Grinch 03-29-2017 06:06 PM

Oh my, cherrybsixty! That is funny!!

Grinch 03-29-2017 06:16 PM

OK, I finally finished a UFO. This was started last year - I had it cut and some blocks sewn together, but had to stop to work on a different project that had a deadline. I am giving it to a friend tomorrow. I can't seem to get the photo to upload, but I promise I completed it.

Janice McC 03-30-2017 04:56 AM

DJ, there are no "small contributions". ANY UFO finish is a BIG one so congratulations on your pillow finish. It's beautiful! I love the cross stitch and they way you changed the design and made the XS portion off center. Beautiful fabrics, too. Great job! Toot, Toot!

I just finished this 18" throw pillow cover for DD#1 for her birthday. I've worked on and off on the cross stitch since May of 2015. The chart is from the Spring 2014 issue of Stoney Creek Magazine. I changed the birds that were in the circle to an eagle motif, since this is going to Alaska. I used my new Westalee ruler templates to quilt it. I even designed my own border motif with one of the templates. I didn't have an 18" pillow to insert for the pictures, so I just stuffed it with one of my bed pillows.

Uh, oh...you've got another one!

My cousin is my long arm artist and she spear-head two or three of us to do the charity quilt for the local children hospital and a batter shelter. Today, she hands me a bag that has two the quilts that she just can't get finish. Bless her heart, that another story, one of the quilt top is one that I put together in '15. How about that a UFO came back home to be finish by it's original creator. How about that one???

cherrybsixty 03-30-2017 06:58 PM

Grinch it is funny indeed.

Janice, it's certainly is one that I wasn't counting on, but it will be nice to put it on my finish list. Have a nice sewing evening, everyone.

I finally finished a UFO too. I made this mini quilt last fall (how old must an unfinished project be to call it a UFO?) I used bit corners from my 2015 Bonnie Hunter mystery. I love cheddar reproduction fabric most so I really like this being finished. It took me SIX months to hand quilt! Not because it was difficult. I'm just very easily distracted... I'm not sure if you can see the hand quilting or not. :D

elly66 03-31-2017 05:27 AM

SheriR that is so pretty. Your color choices are inspiring.

Janice McC 03-31-2017 07:02 AM

Grinch, I missed this finish when I checked yesterday. Oops! Congratulations and toot, toot!

Love cheddar! Congratulations on this beautiful mini UFO finish. (YOU determine the "UFO-ness" of a piece.). It's lovely. Toot, toot.

Sheri R, you won me over with your color choice (brown family) and the hand quilt made me take the second look, beautiful work and an awesome piece. Happy sewing day everyone.

joe'smom 03-31-2017 08:25 AM

That's so pretty, SheriR! I have a new appreciation of cheddar since following your progress on the last two mysteries.

QuilterMomma 03-31-2017 08:30 AM

Beautiful SheriR, I love this fabric as well. Has to feel good to finish it since it took you six months.

QuilterMomma 03-31-2017 08:31 AM

Oh guess what, no, no more finishes from me this month, but hopefully five next month depending on quilting time. But I get to go to Duluth, MN for the quilt show there. Husband is letting me leave the state by myself to go to a quilt show to view judging for my certification. I am excited. Can't wait to go.

MadQuilter 03-31-2017 08:41 AM

SheriR that's very pretty and elegant.

QuilterMomma - lucky you! Enjoy and please tell us about your experience.

cherrybsixty 03-31-2017 01:45 PM

QuilterMomma, I am excited for you, please let hear of your experience, that sound so wonderful. Hope that it's not that much of a challenge. Happy sewing everyone on my way to work on my May finish.

oksewglad 03-31-2017 02:31 PM

QMomma...the MN show is a great show, I try to get to it when it's closer to home. Congratulations on your certification process.

Finally have a couple finishes. These are charity quilts made for the Honor Flight attendees. The one with stars was a 3-year-old UFO. Even worse, yesterday I found a top that I thought was quilted and long donated!! Guess I'd better get busy.

joe'smom 04-01-2017 06:37 AM

LTeachergeorge, those are beautiful!

oksewglad 04-01-2017 06:50 AM

Lteacher, simple designs, dramatic results...Lovely.

MadQuilter 04-01-2017 09:19 AM

Love the colors, LTeachergeorge.

I am going to work on blocks today. Brought a bunch home from the community service table at the guild. When they are out of the way I can clean up my table and work on the next UFO. It's already basted and waiting.

Grinch 04-01-2017 12:13 PM

Great colors, LTeacher!! Lovely!!

Belfrybat 04-01-2017 01:15 PM

Beautiful finishes! I won't have an official one this month. But I have been busy with UFOs -- I quilted four tops this month and will be binding them this coming month. My main machine is in the shop for a cleaning and tune-up and I don't want to try and bind on my "baby" Brother.
Maybe I will wow you next month!

All2Pieces 04-01-2017 02:33 PM

Nice finishes y'all. Hopefully soon I can get back to sewing. I've got work and family stuff at the moment that is impinging on sewing time. LOL.

elly66 04-03-2017 04:44 AM

LTeacher that is beautiful. LOVE those colors. Congrats on the finish.

LTeachergeorge 04-03-2017 07:26 AM

Thank you, everyone, for the kudos!

QuilterMomma 04-03-2017 08:23 AM

Love those Linda. Great finishes!!!!!!!

Thank you everyone. I will be sure to share when I get back, in meantime, lets get some UFOs finished.

Janice McC 04-03-2017 09:41 AM

Congratulations, terrific quilts, LTeachergeorge! I'm sure two lucky people will be thrilled with your quilts. The scrappy stars quilt is a particular favorite. Toot, Toot!QUOTE=LTeachergeorge;7795663]Whoops! Forgot to take a picture of the second one.
Janice McC 04-03-2017 09:46 AM

Getting ready to post the tally...does anyone have another to post that you finished last month? I'll probably post tomorrow.

I'm happy to report I SHOULD have a mini finished soon. I lost my quilting mojo but I've played around a bit the last couple of days with my scraps and now I can hardly wait to finish my little HST quilt. Maybe in the next week I'll have something to add to your finishes. Maybe???

MadQuilter 04-03-2017 02:24 PM

All of my distractions have made progress. 12 BOM blocks are completed and the sashing sewn. A small top ready to be donated to the Veteran's Group at the guild. Now to put the binding on a friend's quilt and then I'm ready to tackle my next UFO.

oksewglad 04-03-2017 02:54 PM

Just saw the cheddar and purple small quilt...how did I miss this SheriR? Well done.

A week ago 11 yo DGD helped me glue baste a crazy block quilt. Now to find the time to quilt this 2 yo UFO....hopefully an April finish.

Janice McC 04-04-2017 05:50 AM

Here we go for March!

Thanks, congratulations and Toot, Toots go out to all of the following people for their combined 22 UFO finishes for the month of March: Glojean48, MadQuilter, SheriR, QuilterMomma, MotorcycleMad, Buglady, Kassaundra, Rryder, Cherrybsixty, Oksewglad, DJ, Grinch and LTeachergeorge. Great job!

These finishes bring the year's total to 75! :) :) :)

What can we do in April? Who will have the first finish for the month???

QuilterMomma 04-04-2017 07:16 AM

I am hoping to be on that list for a first. Ha ha. I am in the process of trying a new concept on quilting those BOM type of quilts. It took a few tries to get my brain wrapped around it at 4:00am, yeah could not sleep. Once I got going, I was booking. Nearly done quilting it. Will finish it up tonight and get the binding on. Also, I finally got a Black, red, and white Bargello top sewn. Now for those borders which I did get cut and ready to go. Will sew that up during lunch today and it will be ready for the longarm. Binding is cut, just needs pressed. Not going to hand sew this binding you know. It will be machine stitched. These are going to be loved quilts, not show quilts. I generally don't hand stitch my bindings unless I want them for show. Call it lazy, but they get done this way. I have way to many tops to get done and I do not like handwork.

MadQuilter 04-04-2017 09:10 AM

Quiltermomma, are you doing custom quilting on the BOM? I have a few BOM tops too and don't quite know yet how to approach them. My big worry is consistency in density.

QuilterMomma 04-04-2017 12:06 PM

MadQuilter, that is an easy issue to resolve. Have you seen Bethanne Nemesh's books? She discusses that very same issue in them. Her book, "Smack Down" explains that taking the approach as a whole cloth quilt instead of each individual block will resolve the issue of uneven quilting and allowing you a secondary pattern thru the quilting. Since my BOM is only 12 blocks, I am using the log cabin style of furrows to achieve a finished secondary pattern while quilting evenly. Like I said earlier, hoping to finish it tonight. I used a light backing so the quilting will show for sure plus, excuse the confusion, I am using up bobbin threads so there are different neutrals on the back. Once you see the quilting, you will understand. If you can, purchase the book. Great tool to have.

MadQuilter 04-04-2017 01:49 PM

Thanks for the book tip. I'll go check it out.
