Sync, I love it! I have been wanting to try hand quilting - I like the idea of trying it on a miniquilt. Thanks for the idea.
|
WOW ladies and gents, those are some great finishes, and QM that quilting is amazing. Bargello, minions, panels, small ones and big ones, and a new quilter to the group.
|
Welcome Annie2016 to the group.
|
Sync...nice finish. I like hand quilting. It does take a lot of time but it is very relaxing for me. Your design looks like swirls or waves. Did you mark it with a stencil or do free hand?
That reminds me....I have another UFO that I have been hand quilting for the past year or more I haven't worked on it since early February. Forgot about that one so that makes 13 UFOs. Have a good day, everyone. edited to add....Thank you for welcoming me to the group. |
QuilterMomma, your bargello fabrics are fascinating; it's a very elegant combination.
JuanitaBean, congratulations on those cute finishes. The sashing on the T-shirt quilt is a great choice. Sync, I see you are not shy about hand quilting over seams. That always limits my choice of design when hand quilting. Lovely finish! Welcome, Anne! I am not close to finishing any UFOs. Right now I am working on getting to bed at a decent hour consistently. I've decided getting enough sleep so my back is rested is the key to success. Why is it so easy to start a bad habit but so hard to start a good one? |

Count me in!! I have tons of boxes of UFO's but I won't be able to start until July 2017!!
|
Excitement!!! These are some cool UFOs. Love the Minion. I have a daughter crazy (24) over those little guys.
Welcome aboard this train fellow UFO quilters. We are going to get thru these one way or another. Because bad habits are easier than the good ones, that is why hard to keep up on good ones. Love the saying "we can choose our habits, our habits choose our future". I am nearly done with two more, I have to get border fabric for the heart bargello, and then need to sew up the blocks and do a quick edge to edge on another log cabin which was to be brickwork, but somehow I messed up, but it will be done. I did finish the boss' quilt, not a ufo, now to get it quilted as well. I have been working on another on the longarm, but may have to put it aside for a few because I have a quick customer quilt to get done as well. Hmm, finish two UFOs or struggle thru one. Thinking taking the easy and then put hard back on. Will check timing and go from there. Well off to do some more real work. Good job everyone. |
anne2016, I agree hand quilting is really relaxing. Almost all of my quilts are hand quilted. I'm a complete novice as far as machine quilting goes and recently took a craftsy class on quilting with your walking foot. I did use a stencil for the wave quilting pattern. ummmm ..... my free hand drawing wouldn't look as good.
|
Thanks joe'smom. A while back I put on my big girl panties and started quilting through seams. The trick to it was to take your time and quilt one stitch at a time, even if you have to stab stitch. I know, I know, it does slow down the process but seams are no longer my enemy ...... lol.
|
Thanks for the reply. I am still working on turning my binding to the back and hand sewing it down.

So...the scrappy quilt is completely finished. This is my first quilting finish for 2017. I am hoping there will be many more. Gosh...the pics are BIG!

Love that, Anne2016!! I am saving squares to make a scrappy quilt. I just love the way they look!
|
Nice scrappy, anne2016. Congrats on your finish.
|
Neat scrappy squares Anne!
Congrats on all the great finishes everyone! :) I'm hoping to get back to my ufo's soon. |
What a lovely quilt, anne2016. Great stash buster too.
|
Nice scrappy anne2016. Doesn't it feel good to get a UFO finished! I'm hoping to get one done for April, but we've had so many visitors this month that it might not happen.

Anne, is that the Growing up odd pattern? The white settles down the color chaos:thumbup: I have a flimsy to quilt in that pattern and used lots of 2 1/2" squares....
|
Yes...that's the pattern. I also used 2.5" squares. The size with 2"wide sashings and 3.5" wide border ended up being approx 76"X100"with a 3X4 block layout. Scrappies are my favorite type of quilt.

Thanks everyone. Yesterday, I started quilting the black/white/grey quilt but I didn't get far. It was the first warm sunny day we've had this year and I had all the windows/doors open. Washed all my bed quilts and hung on clothesline to dry. Then I sat out in the deck chair with the laptop and went through this thread looking at all the quilt pictures.Such wonderful work! It's nice to have encouragement to finish projects. Happy to be on the train.

Wow, that is beautiful Annie.
And to think I have that many 2" squares cut up already and barely made a dent in my scrap stash. |
Very pretty, Anne2016. I'm glad Oksewglad asked if it was a Growing Up Odd quilt and that Wildyard shared the tutorial.
Thanks to everyone for sharing pictures of your UFO's. Connie |
Yesterday, I worked on the quilting on my bl/wh/grey quilt. I got over half finished. Hoping the rest will get done today. It is stitch in the ditch so it is quick to do.
I have had a few walking foots(feet?) over the years. I had problems with keeping the stitch in the ditch area. For me, this walking foot that came with my Brother pq1500 is the best one so far. It has a narrower distance between the two feet that sit on the presser plate. It helps me stay focused on the ditch. How are all of you train riders progressing with your projects? |
Thank you Anne2016 for that 2.5" square finish such a lovely to me.
Thanks Wildyard for the link on that tutorial on that pattern. Got a couple finishes on the plate just trying to get the hang of transfering the pix and post them. That a process that's bigger than stitch-in-the-ditch. Happy Sewing Day |
I have an anti-UFO story to tell. It looks like I will be able to complete a project start to finish without it ever making it into the UFO bin. Now THAT'S RARE for me.

That is a thrill isn't it Martina!!!!
Oh, I did not tell you, but I got new lighting in my quilting/family room last night. WOW! what a difference it makes. I know, I need a new ironing board cover, but it is on its way. No more yellow photos for me and I can see what I am doing. The blocks are a swap I am doing over at MyQuiltPlace.com. You can also see that I am nearly done with two more UFOs. Have to put borders on the bargello and the one behind it just needs it backing pieced. |
QuillterMomma, your lighting set up looks fantastic ..... nice and bright. Love the quilt and blocks on your design wall.
|
Impressive QMomma.....I really need more lighting in my space....trac lights look like a smart way to go...
|
nice lighting, QuilterMomma!! Enjoy it!
|
QMomma...your lighting will be a blessing. I had a clip-on machine light that helped me a lot but I really need some all-over GOOD room lighting. Older eyes just aren't compatible with old lighting. I cannot see dark fabrics well enough and this past month or so I find that white thread on white fabric is also hard to see.
I like those teapot/teacup blocks! Someday, I want to make a wall, hanging with teacups/teapots/ plates and saucers. No quilting yesterday or today. I have a bad headache. I don't usually get headaches but I tied back my long, unruly gray hair with a an elastic band and I think that's what gave me the headache. That and the ton of hairspray....it was marked unscented but it definitely wasn't. If headache eases off, I hope to get some hand quilting done tonight. |
Your new lighting looks great, QuilterMomma. I know I should do something about the lighting in my sewing room, too.
Very pretty scrappy quilt, Anne! |
Great lighting. You'll enjoy that and your mentioning of the ironing board reminds me I need to look for a new one myself :)
|
Love the mini-quilt, Sync, and especially your hand quilting. Beautiful! Congratulations and toot, toot on your UFO finish.

Welcome to the group anne2016.
My progress on my ufos has been slow but steady. The quilting on my hubby's quilt (poor guy has been waiting 2 years) is getting close to being done and I'm working on the borders of Allietare. My DD#2 and SIL just left to go back home (to Hawai'i) after their nice visit here, miss them already. While here DD#2 laid claim to one of my ufos, so that has moved up on the get done list. Anyway I do have an April finish ............ this is from Aurifil's BOM mini series from 2015. It's 15.5" X 17.75" It was machine pieced and hand quilted. |
Well, JimsQueenie, we'll be here in July. Why don't you just keep stopping by in the meantime to say hello and offer your support. We can all use it. :) Welcome to this train ride!

Anne2016, this is a wonderful colorful UFO finish! Of course, I'm partial since I love scrappy and I love squares. Congratulations on your first UFO finish of 2017. Toot, Toot!
We're picking up a little speed here, travelers!

I believe I'm all caught up with the finishes. If I missed anyone's, please don't hesitate to let me know. :)
**** I will send good finishing thoughts your way. When you are done, you can tell us what it's like to make a quilt without it becoming a UFO first!

On the lighting, if you put in "Daylight LED bulbs" in your house, you can get some good light. We put the bulbs in our kitchen and wow, what a difference. A bit bright in am, but need to wake up anyway. LOL
I have the borders nearly done on bargello. Hope to get it quilted and bound by tomorrow and the other one. |
