I sure have enjoyed seeing everyone's progress, creative alterations and alternative color ways!
i decided to be a purist and stick with the original design as I think it works for me because I didn't go scrappy on lots of different fabrics. still have not decided on what size to make, but here is a photo of my first two blocks sewn together! |
Jeanne, that's looking great. I really like how your fabrics work in the design.

givio, your block is lovely. I love your green with the other colors, and the neutral center works so well.
IrishNY, I think both the mild yellow and the neutral look nice. I'm really enjoying these more soothing alternate color palettes. I think the complementary colors juxtaposed in the main block in Bonnie's colors make it more demanding to look at. Belfry Bat, I prefer the stronger yellow with your blues. Very nice, JeanneS!. I remember you were such a speedster with Allietare, too. Pagzz, that looks nautical. I love it! This is what I've decided on. The only change is I'm using my constant instead of the lavender in the block QST. I've gone back to the 4-patch for the center, and will plan on using my quieter units there. I'm also considering the idea of making the sashing star yellow. |
Ooohhh. Love the reveal and thoroughly enjoying everyone working their own out the way they want. This is such an exciting part for me in being in a group and seeing the lovely work going on. Loving all of them!
I'm working on my new hourglass units and starting to sew the sashings together. The blocks will come next. I love this quilt very much but...to me it needs another row. I love the neutral squares border but I want to frame it. So, I'm thinking of a row of the triangle in a square blocks. Purple and lavender perhaps. Will decide for sure when I get there. |
I googled ohio star variations and saw some I liked better. Here is the link for the images if you wish to take a look.

I haven't cut the yellow yet and am auditioning both a bright and light. What do you think? I'm leaning towards the light, but am concerned it might be too close in value to the neutral. But the bright yellow just seems to overwhelm the block. All comments welcome -- thanks.

Ah... been sewing all day. I have my 9 blocks together and also my 24 sashing units. Still working on the neutral 4 patches and the first border. I hope to have the top all put together tomorrow.
All the progress posted is really exciting! Love seeing everyone's pics. |

I really love seeing everyone's interpretations and colour ways. I found a scrap of medium yellow for the blocks. Not enough to also do the sashing, but the yellow in the sashing doesn't seem as noticiable, so I'll stick with the lighter in that. With the stronger yellow I'm also sticking to the single neutral block in the center. I am tied up today so won't be able to start sewing until tomorrow. I really like how this pattern is coming together.

You all have inspired me again! After spending last week helping my mom move into a retirement home, donating and cleaning out everything that was left, and getting her house put on the market, I need some quilting therapy. So last night I redid 20 half square triangles that weren't quite right and finished the rest of them. Now I'm ready to do week 6 clues today. Thanks for the inspiration.
