Tom W, if that's the case, then the people who have the 45 3.5" squares will still need some type of item to combine for the remaining 176 different blocks, don't you think? ...???
SBG, My free motion is uglier than yours. I win that prize! :-p I don't want lots of 4-patches that are identical, so I'm not sewing strips, nesting them, then cutting the twosies to save on cutting time. I don't even want lots of twosies that match. I've got 500 2" squares cut... I have 7 more strips of different prints to cut to squares... lost count... didn't multiply and divide correctly... *roll my eyes* I'm only making half the total because I only want a twin size quilt. lol Tomorrow I plan to sew. Probably won't twirl seams, but will check out the video before I decide on that (thanks SBG). Interesting thought about the cutting to a triangle idea someone expressed... |
Givio - twirling the seams is very easy, and you don't have to clip anything. When the 4 patches are sewn together, look at the last seam you have sewn. Have it facing down. If you put your thumbs, one on the right side, and one on the left and just lift the right side upward and hold the left steady, the "twirl" effect will occur. It makes a little 4-patch on the back and makes it much flatter. Very fast once you get the hang of it. Clear as mud, I know!

I think the reason for only 45 squares of neutral is that later in the quilt where normally there would be neutral 4 patches thrown together, there will be a large piece of neutral in the quilt larger than 3.5 square. I wonder if this one will resemble floor tiles like the last one? It would make the alternating two color neutrals look more like a mosaic. I'm going for 30's fabrics. Odd I know but I had most of the colors. I'm sticking with the lavender and going with blues for the purples and pinks for the constant. My constant will be the white.

love the pictures! I'm excited to get to working with my neutrals, but so far other things have gotten in the way. I should have them all done before next Friday.

As I mentioned before, this is my first mystery quilt.
I know I would probably have already thrown up my hands in disgust if I didn't have my 2" die cutter!! So far, I'm at 122 4-patches. I'm hoping to get the rest of them done in just a little while, so I can work on a UFO. Then that would give me credit for the MQ, credit for the UFO train, and credit for the VQW thread. Hey, I'm a "computer person" in real life, so it's in my very nature to multi-task!! |

Will someone please check my math ... I think 4 patches have taken over my sewing area! 221 total 4 patch units equals 884 separate 2 inch squares. I can get approx. 10 squares out of a 22" strip. Means I need about 85 strips. I've been sewing since Friday (off and on). Someone must be hiding what I've sewn 'cause I only have about half the amount needed. Think I will go take another break! Coffee is calling me..... |

All2pieces: After reading Givio's and your posts, I realized I needed to refigure my math!!!!! Lol! I suppose I could just leave my numbers and do 1/2 of the quilt. I am going to blame it on being tired and distracted by the TV. :)
