Such beautiful units are being shown. I am still working on the 4 patches but I think I have enough twosies paired up now for the total. I need to cut more blue for the HSTs. Oh, well. What gets done, gets done. :)

Carol, I want to check out Bonnie's Hunter's String Star pattern. Your block is beautiful and what a great way to use the colors you had pulled for this mystery.

Everyone's blocks are looking good - just love seeing all the fun fabrics.

Carol - your Hunter's Star is lovely
Vagabond - love your fabric eyeglasses are adorable
JENNR8R - your blocks are great but if you're hurting just work on a few at a time, sew a bit, press a bit, trim a bit, take a break.

I finished Clue #2 - whew - I think this is the first Bonnie Mystery I've kept up with the clues. Working Friday but Saturday is wide open. Who else is hoping Clue #3 is: make 48 squares and that's it. :D
(note: orange is my neutral)

I am so loving your clue 2s, AmyB!

I was thinking that we'd had it easy thus far, and wondering if we're going to get a doozy of a clue tomorrow.

Finished with my first clue 2s, and pressing madly to get the second set ready before tomorrow. It's the first time I've used yardage and tonal neutrals for a Bonnie mystery (I'm using a single blue fabric and single green, mildly scrappy on the red and orange).

Clue 3 is up! Out for an early appointment, and then I will read through it again. I prefer not to draw lines if I can avoid it.

Earlier this week I read this tip on sewing HSTs without drawing lines... scroll down to where she is marking a piece of tape to put on her machine.

This clue will stop someone like me (messy Marcia) in my tracks. I've decided (And I'm not complaining I'm just stating facts) to split the instructions into two sections. I will make my little half square triangles by themselves, the way I make all of them. Cut half inch bigger both ways, and then trim. The trim that I get does not equal the extra that I cut. I've made 20 of the half squares and one chevron that did not turn out.

I'm not sure if I'm too strong and pull the fabric out of specks, or what. I know if I concentrate and use a very light touch, with the rotary blade, the iron and the finger press, they do turn out better. But I did manage to get a new book.

Right there with you BattleAxe. I don't have much luck with flippy corners to begin with. So I want my larger units to be correctable. To obtain usable HST's my seams have to be about 1/8 inch. Just don't feel like that's a good compromise for a large quilt. So, I'm making my HST's separate also.

Thank you for the link, QuiltingVagabond! I was thinking of those half-chevrons, and avoiding drawing lines by using the Simple Folded Corners ruler. I suspect that I will then have to make the little HSTs separately, which I don't mind. I don't like the idea of guesswork and scant seams to make the other method work.

I wonder if those making the separate HSTs will need extra green yardage, if Bonnie calculated the yardage with her bonus buddy method in mind.

edit

I don't really get what the Bonus Buddy Ruler is for; not really understanding her photos and text this time. I'll try reading it again.

I always have trouble with those half chevrons. Bonnie uses them a lot and they’re a big part of what makes her designs so beautiful.
