Just a question , not meant as a criticism for anyone:
Why do so many want to change the layout Bonnie created? It is her design for which we "signed on." I can understand adding boarders as she said we might want to do or even changing the existing pattern a little for whatever reason, but changing the whole layout means it is not the mystery quilt she created. When you do change it significantly,do you still consider you have done the 2017 Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt?

I changed the layout because a) I love the folded corner blocks as is, not as they look on point, and because b) I am just really sick of on point layouts. I've done many of them lately and enough is enough. It all added up to a straight setting for me. That meant I had no big blue setting triangles to balance out the colors, so I went with a twisty border I have long admired.

Many many people follow the pattern exactly, but for some it's just a creative jumping off point. I love seeing all the versions.

Here is my finished top on a bed. Finished at about 78"x90".

This is a close up of how the border works. I may or may not change the four corner blocks before quilting....

There was more pink that I liked . So I'm still doing Bonnie's design, just changing my sashing color to blue, and the shades four patch unit so the blues are towards the center. I feel like Bonnie gives us a recipe and we use it, personalize it or totally change it. But I feel like it is still the mystery quilt, because we all worked on a mystery having no clue what it was. And Bonnie has even said she loves seeing all the variations of her patterns.

I'm a newbie with just 6-months experience and I really enjoy seeing everyone's creativity come through their various color & fabric choices, layout changes (especially changing the large aqua/triangle borders) without feeling any offense to Bonnie Hunter. In the end, I think the maker has to feel good about & like their own finished product and I'm assuming that's BH's wish too. When I finish mine, with a few minor changes, I will consider having completed the BH ORL mystery with my own twist

This is my 3rd BH mystery. I love the adventure and camaraderie of it all. After GI I have liked all of her layouts, but have made them my own w/ changes, color, color placement, unit shapes, and this one w/ a totally different layout. It is my fabric and my time, the design choice is always in my hands. If people don't consider it a BH quilt that is okay w/ me, it is certainly a BH inspired quilt, and I have always ended up w/ a quilt I love.

With that I was about to post a recent pic, this is Ringo's Sister, at least 6 blocks of it, the actual quilt will be 4 blocks wide 5 blocks long, some borders will be added not sure what yet though, will depend on what parts I have left.
