I also have a Panasonic iron. I love it. Maybe not as hot as other irons, but it works fine for me. It has auto-shut-off, which I also need, as I sometimes forget to turn off irons.

I use a treadle sewing machine, so if my lap cat sniggles on my lap, he soon leaves when I start sewing (it's very bouncy). However, he excels at causing chaos when I lay out blocks on the floor.

So sorry to hear of the murder of innocent creatures. Capital punishment for being seen. I lived with 4 black widows in Africa. I knew where they lived and we got along fine.
