I had wondered the same thing. That might work with a different version of the design. I think the problem is that I’m used to quilting mainly with a 40-50wt Aurifil cotton at 3/4 - 1/2” spacing. Or...

It seems the issues are occurring wherever I backtrack. Can I not do backtracking with decorative threads?

Thanks, osewfast, I’ll see if I can’t find one around here somewhere. Gutermann’s thread guide suggested a 90/14 Topstitch, so that’s why I picked that. The top of the quilt looks great, but the back...

Thanks, Tartan, I’ll keep that in mind for the future. This one is thick. It is polyamide wrapped around a polyester core. It is probably comparable to a 28/2 cotton, but the metallic gold flecks off...

Tips to FMQ with metallic thread?

I am using a 90/14 Topstitch needle with Gutermann metallic thread. 0 stitch length, FMQ foot #29, top tension lowered to 2, feed dogs down. My machine is flush to table with Supreme Slider. And I...

I mostly do needleturn now, but before I just used the Reynold's freezer paper I can get at Wal-Mart or the grocery store. I do use a Clover mini-iron to help turn my edges. That made a huge...

Jane Quilter,
Unfortunately, I'm highly allergic to rayon, and break out in hives just from touching it, but award-winning quilter Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry uses it & it looks stunning! I'm sure...

As Tartan said, it will break more often. You also have to be careful when pressing to only use a low setting or else you will melt the thread (I might have learned that lesson the hard way - haha!)....

I have a Singer 353 and it has no problem sewing through just about anything-- 3 layers of heavyweight denim, vinyl, drapery fabric ... things my Bernina 350 could never handle.

Warm & Plush. It's the thickest 100% cotton batting I've found anywhere. I don't use wool for little ones because some have a sensitivity to wool. I don't use bamboo rayon because of all the...

I tried it once. Much harder to get a perfect mitred corner, but uses less fabric. Also, I'm used to being able to travel in that 1/4" space covered by the binding, or even straight off the fabric....

I'd pick up a second spool. When I made my niece's quilt with a 3/4" meander for the center section (42x51), I used around 500m of thread with some un-sewing. So, if you plan to use the same thread...

Not sure how old your grandson is, but if he's at least 3 years old, I'd suggest wool batting (I love Hobb's Heirloom wool -- it's very lightweight & washes great). Wool is wonderful because it...

I haven't heard the term "pillowing", but I'm guessing you're referring to the stretched out fabric. Usually that's caused by one of 3 things:
Fabric isn't cut on on straight of grain.
Fabric is...

I agree with the 50's because of the brown fabrics. Definitely not earlier than the 40's because that's when the red-yellow-blue prints first came out.

I'd go with the 7 rows/columns. 40" can start to get unwieldy for someone in a wheelchair or with limited strength. Make sure to also pick a lightweight batting.

I would still pick the first one. If you want 3 colors, I would go with a very light blue-violet. The reason is that, from my computer, at least, it looks like you've picked a blue-green and a...
