Fat Quarter Ripe-off
#113
Last week while fondling fabric, organizing my stash, and ironing some batik fat quarters I'd bought from JoAnn's, I thought I'd measure them just for curiosity's sake. Out of 16 FQ, all were at least 18-1/2 or greater by 23, and this was AFTER washing and drying them in the dryer. And, none of them were misshapen. Maybe I just have good luck there, but if I had a problem I wouldn't hesitate to take them back the next time I went and show them the problem. My JoAnn's employees try to keep their customers satisfied.

I would definitely say something to them. Jo Ann's is very rapidly moving out of my life. The LQS's are more expensive but at least you get what you are supposed to get and they don't cheat you out of anything. At a LQS if they are measuring and what you want leaves 4 or 5 inches on the bolt they just say it's yours, but at Jo Ann's they measure it and if you want it they charge by the inch giving you a little discount like they have done something really big.

After listening to everyone's complaints about Joanne's, I agree. I have had issues with their coupons...sometimes they don't apply to certain items. The coupon descriptons are misleading.
At our LQS the ladies are all so helpful. They have even helped me pick colors when I am confused. I have noticed that the quality of fabric is so much higher at my LQS. So I am shying away from Joanne's also. I would like to support our LQS!

Yes, you should speak with the manager. I no longer purchase fabric from Joanne on-line because this has happened too often to me. I prefer to go to the store and watch while it is being cut so I can refuse to take it if the is crooked so much that I will lose two or three inches on each end. Some clerks are not sewers or quilters and they don't understand why it makes a difference.
