My kitchen stove is electric with a microwave on top. It's all one unit. I think it was new about 35 or 40 years ago. I had an Oster blender that I purchased when my daughter was about 10. I think I got a new one when she was close to 40.

I think it depends if you ask me (keep it til it dies) or my DH (it's ugly, replace!). I convinced him to keep my kitchenaid mixer from 1975 which still works and looks like new. He trashed my old cuisinart and I wish he hadn't. The new ones just aren't the same in quality. Mostly, I care for my appliances well and they return the favor.

I usually don't replace unless it's broken. Now I might supplement, finances permitting. I have the Artisan and she works like a draft horse. When I made my first cake with the new mixer, I didn't realize how much more power it has than a regular handmixer. Ended up exploding my cake all over the oven. Apparently I had beaten way too much air into it. lol

My DD has the low end commercial mixer that is 1200 watts! I think it will mix cement. LOL. It's a Sage and it's not pricey at all for what you get. $179. It's on the larger size for a stand mixer and a very sleek design. She can do triple batches of cookie dough at a time. She freezes the dough in logs. Homemade cookies that save the grocery budget and time when it's her turn to provide snacks for one of DGD's events or activities.

WOW, I can't even imagine replacing something unless it was un fixable. Heck I lived from a cooler for three weeks waiting on a new fridge a few years ago. (Country girl can survive ) lol

PS, I didn't have a mixer till a few years ago unless you count my arms and muscles lol. And I do bake, bread and all Funny thing is I still seem to do it all by hand and seldom even get the mixer out. My son was laughing at the toaster the other day because it has "paneling" I got to thinking it is 31 years old lol

I guess it is all personal choice. Just happy for you that you can afford to stay up to date with your appliances.

Guilty! I don't replace appliances until they are broken. Mind you, nowadays that can be sooner than I like.

nycquilter, our DHs must have been twins separated at birth. I miss my O'Keefe and Merritt gas stove so much after my DH insisted I replace it when it needed a new thermostat and calrod. I hate, hate, hate the replacement. He replaced my washing machine I'd had since 1972 because it needed a bushing that made the agitator go around. My replacement rusted within 6 months. My old one didn't have a single spot of rust. I put my foot down at replacing my dryer...it only needed a new heating element.
And you guessed it......I keep something until it dies but then, I am part Scot.

As much as I love getting a new appliance, I never replace anything until it's broken. If something's obviously on its last legs and finances allow, it might get replaced before it fails completely.

I usually wait until my appliances are on their "last leg" before replacing them. I was a child of the depression era so that sticks with you. On the other hand I was never conservative when buying fabric!!
