Joe, I have been concern about that too. That is why I'm using the polyurethane aquarium tubing or leather.
It is interesting the different material that has been used. My favorite is the aquarium tubing.

She is doing amazing. I recommend everyone who lives in rattlesnake country or goes hiking state parks, etc., get their dogs vaccinated with the rattlesnake shot. We had a Queensland who was bitten 10 years ago - when we first moved here. He was in intensive care for a week, had to have two anti-venom injections, which ran back then $800 a pop. He was sloughing off the skin where he was bit. He was never right after that rattlesnake thing. He ended up with immune problems. This Jack Russell is acting normal today. She ate, she is going outside to pee, her swelling is about gone. The dogs that get bit, who have had the shot - just bounce back so much quicker and easier. They still have to go to the vet, still have swelling and a lot of pain - but, nothing like the ones who aren't vaccinated! It just amazes me because of what we went through 10 years ago - like night and day! By the way, the rattlers are out in force. They have already had 15 dogs and 2 cats this year at the one emergency clinic I went to! Rattlesnakes are going to be a big problem this year! Probably because we didn't get a winter until March! So be careful all you hikers and walkers!

Well, I sent them another e-mail this am asking them why they haven't even responded to my first e-mail offering them $100, when they are only asking $125? I didn't let them know I know they have the machine listed on e-bay for more. I told them that when something is listed on Craigslist with no phone number, we never know whether they got the e-mails or our e-mails just go to spam. If they don't answer this time, I wouldn't buy their machine if they lower it to $75 - it is just rude! Why did they even put it on Craigslist? And if they don't want to sell it on Craigslist why don't they take it off?

I see they are asking $150 again on e-bay, but who pays the shipping? It is still listed as I said already for $125 on Craigslist. This is obviously a buyer/seller who is looking to make money. I am just going to forget this machine - not worth it!

Nancy, When I picked up my first Two Spools that had been made into a e-machine at one time, it came with a spring coil. At the time, I didn't understand why or for what that coil would be needed with that machine. I just figured it must have been thrown in drawer and forgotten. It wasn't until I purchased the spring coil for testing that I realized the Two Spools must have had a spring coil for treadle belt. The two spring coils, old and new, have the same diameter and look the same. I believe leather was cheaper and easier to find. So, most machines had the leather belts.

I do agree that there can be stress on the wheel if the coil is attached to tightly. One can easily lift the spring coil off the wheel when not in use, which I forget to do with my Two Spools.

The leather looks the prettiest and seems to be the most natural for these vintage machines. The aquarium tubing looks odd, but I find that it works great!

Can I use Oxygen tubing? I have miles of it it is just a little smaller around. And yes how much does it stretch?

I don't know about oxygen tubing, but I would give it a try. If there is slipping, you could put a rubber band in the hand wheel to see if that grips the tubing.

The price of the tubing that I picked up at Daiso was ~$2; I believe it was under $2. I finally found the one package under a pile of fabrics. Daiso calls their aquarium tubing air hose for aquarium, and it is 5 meters long, which is enough for two treadles.
